The wonderful world of Wales
Think of Wales, and what images do you see in your mind’s eye? What I can picture are rugged mountain peaks, green rolling hills and plenty of grazing sheep. Wales retains a charm and beauty that is rare in a world where natural landscapes are disappearing. It may go some way to account for the amazing visitor levels of nearly 13 milliion in a single year!
As a destination, Wales has something to suit everyone, historic buildings, free space and sports for all levels and ages. Another fascinating option when considering things to do in Wales, is exploring the ancient mines and caves litter the hillsides.
Wales has had rich and dramatic past with bloody conflicts and royal sagas. There are 641 castles in this small country, built about 1000 years ago which display a range of ancient and modern styles of archetecture. The castle at Beaumaris on Anglessey, for example, started construction in the 13th century and is a classic example of the architecture of the medieval British military. As well as medieval castles, Wales also has some intesting abbeys and churches that are accessible to everyone. And while you’re soaking up the historic atmosphere, you might as well drop in to any of Wales’ 320 art galleries or the National Museum to get a glimpse of Welsh culture.
If checking out Welsh history is not your idea of perfect holidays in Wales, there is plenty of scope for indulging in all sorts of adventure sports. There are many activities on offer including hiking, kayaking, surfing and bike riding.
The ideal holiday though, is one that will allow you to set your own pace. Cottages in Wales are the perfect location for a lazy vacation when you decide to do as little or as much as you fancy. Unlike a hotel, a cottage lets you make your own plans, with scheduled meal times or annoying people on the next table. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy some quality time with the family and friends, away from the bustle of daily life.
