England Vacations And Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Bring to mind Nottingham and mostly all visitors recall the legend of Sir Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest and though folklore attracts many folk year after year there is plenty more to the city of Nottingham than meets the eye. Infact the city of Nottingham is home to a respectable selection of interesting tourist attractions making it an excellent base for a short break and the article below discusses the city and a few of attractions in Nottingham, and also some guest houses offering Nottingham B&B accommodation.

The city of Nottingham is in Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands of  England. As well as Sherwood Forest, the legend of Robin Hood, his merry men and the Sheriff of Nottingham, Nottingham is also renowned for the lace making business especially during the Industrial Revolution when it gained a worldwide reputation for excellence.

Nottingham Lace Market

At one time the heart of the worldwide lace industry, during the time of the British Empire, Nottingham’s Lace Market is, today, a protected heritage area. It  is home to many splendid examples of 19th Century industrial architecture. The Lace Market wasn’t like a normal market area, instead of featuring stalls and salesmen, the lace market was a number of warehouses and salesrooms displaying and selling lace. After the decline in the lace industry the area became rundown however, today, the majority of the fine warehouses have been restored and renovated for alternative use for instance photographic studios and similar. The Nottingham Lace Market is a popular tourist attraction.

Shire Hall & Galleries of Justice

Not a great distance from the Lace Market can be found the Galleries of Justice in Shire Hall. Shire Hall is a Georgian civic building featuring Neoclassical columns, pilasters and dome. The front of the hall has, if you look at it closely, a spelling error Goal instead of Gaol. The Hall has two excellently preserved courtrooms from the Victorian period plus old cells, a women’s prison, bath house, an Edwardian police station and a prisoner’s exercise yard.

Nottingham is a fantastic place to have a short city break. You will find lots to see and do within the city and an selection number of tourist attractions nearby. Places well worth a visit include; Newstead Abbey, Hardwick Hall and Wollaton Hall.

As all all bed & breakfast in England, accommodation in Nottingham is commonly first class at a reasonable rate and many visitors choose to stay in Nottingham for part of their break and then elsewhere for the remaining nights.

Would you stop going on holidays, if you knew it would save the planet?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

There is growing concern about the environment, but how concerned are we really? People are burning fuel all across the world, and all we do is create more unique ways to help damage the planet. We can take a simple transportation device like a boat, and fill it full of fuel, then burn it in massive volumes.

So if we are that concerned about the environment, what will we be able to do about holidays? Are we just going to keep on having a go at the world, saying we need to do something about this, yet still jump on a jumbo jet for a holiday to the Caribbean? How can we just let talks about saving the world go on, and back everything that is said, and then take off to a luxury location via one of the most destructive of all transportation techniques, the Cruise ship.

However how can we be sure that the world is really in that much trouble? A lot of this is all speculation, backed up by only minor evidence. There may be some evidential backing to all of this, but it is impossible for any scientist to actually say when the world is going to come to an end. So do we want to save the environment? In truth, the damage being caused by flights isn’t in the great scheme of things all that bad, it is where fuel is being burnt in extreme amounts.

What the odds are on there being a ban on going on holiday are, I don’t know, but I would imagine it is something like one million to one. It is up to the people to decide if they want to stop, but many of us feel as though we need holidays, so therefore won’t stop taking them, even if it does mean damaging the planet, when we get the opportunity for a holiday we have to take it. However I would have no vices in banning Cruise Ships, these things are completely pointless, damaging the sea with garbage, and polluting the atmosphere, with massive amounts of C02.

There could be a rush for holidays in the next decade, where would you go, Cuba holidays, Egypt holidays or Maldives holidays?

Are You Having A Weekend Break In London? Why Not Take A Ride On The London Eye

Monday, November 9th, 2009

The capital city of England and Britain, London, has a large collection of world class tourist attractions, ranging from the immensely old to very recent additions. The majority of the attractions are famous all ’round the globe (for example, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace the Tower of London). Among the recently built are the Millennium Bridge, London Aquarium, Millenium Dome and the London Eye.

The Merlin Entertainments London Eye (it’s full name), is more frequently called, just, the London Eye or,occasionally, the Millenium Wheel (because of the fact that it was erected as part of the Millenium celebrations). The Merlin Entertainments London Eye was officially opened by the then English P.M., Mr. Tony Blair, in the night of December thirty first alarmingly there was a number of technical safety problems which led to it not being opened to the public until March. At the time of erection it was the highest Ferris wheel on the planet being four hundred and forty three feet in height.

The huge wheel can be discovered in Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank of the River Thames peering down upon the Houses of Parliament below. From within one of the 32 capsules towering over the whole of London it is possible to view a large number of the many London landmarks, the earlier mentioned Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s, Buckingham Palace and Hampton Court Palace are just a handful, what a fantastic way to see nearly all of London and, the most likely, the reason it is one of the busiest visitor attraction in London.

The London Eye’s first flight is at 10.00 am but the ticket office opens at 9.30 am.  The Eye closes at half past nine at night between August and July, 8 at night between October and April and at 9 pm for the rest of the year.

People arriving by car will be pleased to learn that there are three car parks nearby. For those traveling in coach parties there are parking facilities very close to the Eye (Telephone) +44 (0)870 990 8886) for details.

The easiest method to get to the London Eye is by the Tube, simply get off at one of the following stations; Embankment, Westminster, Charing Cross, or the nearest Waterloo. It is also possible to arrive by boat, get off at Waterloo Millennium Pier.

Finding London bed and breakfast accommodation is as simple as going over to Bing, Yahoo or Google (or any other search engine of your choice. Whatever you prefer you are sure to find your perfect London accommodation because the city must feature the most guest houses, bed and breakfasts and hotels than any other. Plymouth Weekend City Breaks and Tourist Attractions to See

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Vacations in Great Britain seem to be incredibly popular at the moment, probably due to the the current economy and the low value of the pound. England has a large number of first class tourist destinations including London (the English capital) and other interesting cities plus a selection of seaside resorts such as; Blackpool, Brighton, Bournemouth and Bognor Regis. One seaside town commonly overlooked is Plymouth in the south of England.

At first glance Plymouth appears a little plain and modern, but delving a little deeper and you will very quickly discover that the city has a fascinating history and a deep association with the sea. As long ago as the fifteen hundreds there has been a port in Plymouth. In 1588 Francis Drake embarked from the town’s port to attack and defeat the Spanish Armada. Another moment in history occurred in sixteen twenty when the Pilgrim Fathers embarked from the port.

It is possible to enjoy reasonably priced vacations in Plymouth by booking bed and breakfast in Plymouth rather than booking a expensive hotel. A simple online search will show that you can book a room for as little as £29 a night and some establishments have dinners at a very reasonable rate, commonly equal to, or cheaper than local restaurants.

Visitors Attractions In Plymouth

There are numerous places in Plymouth that are well worth visiting. Popular tourist attractions include; Merchant’s House Museum, the Elizabethan House, the National Marine Aquarium and the Barbican district. A cruise around the waters of the port is an excellent way to spend some time but if you find that you have more time why not take a day trip to places close to Plymouth, for example; Saltram House, Mount Edgcumbe or Buckland Abbey.

Saltram House is a lovely Tudor Mansion which is located 2m east of the town of Plymouth, Mount Edgcumbe is another Tudor house with parklands, landscaped gardens and coastal paths, and Buckland Abbey, about six miles from Plymouth, is a Cistercian abbey which was once owned by Sir Francis Drake and was later renovated as a family home.

If you and your family are in the process of considering taking a break in the city of Plymouth it is immensely important that you reserve your  rooms at the earliest opportunity because, unfortunately guest houses and hotels in Plymouth tend to be alarmingly busy and are often fully booked for months in advance. If you are travelling in a group you may find that Plymouth apartments are a cheap alternative to Plymouth bed & breakfast. If you are visiting the UK from abroad then you could consider booking a room for a few days in London hotels to take in the attractions of the nations capital too.

Journey and leisure are very closely related to each other. When a human being decides to travel, this decision always has a aim behind it. A person mostly decides to travel either for trade reasons or leisure. Leisure initiates travel and travel initiates the revenue for travel-dependant economies, which is the life blood for such economies. The more the people from other locations travel such areas, the more their economies prosper in terms of employment creation for the local people, trade improvement for the neighbor capitalists and persistent inflow of cash in terms of worthy foreign exchange.

Every guy or girl needs a break from work and needs some leisure time to stay away from the mental and psychological tiredness that work generally creates on every working person. In the current times, all the owners are hop by law to allocate appropriate leisure time to their labours, so that they can stay away from job for a while and get relaxed. This again promotes travelling as most people by intuition give importance travelling in their leisure time. The Caribbean, the place for sand sun and sea!

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

The Caribbean has been the holiday centre of attention over the past couple of years. When looking at what the press and the news, there has been much written and talked about involving the Caribbean?

There has always been fascination with celebrities, where they go and what they do on their holidays. The Caribbean looks to have become the meeting place for celebrities these days. Wayne and Coleen Rooney are the two most recent to be spotted on their Barbados holidays. Coleen now showing off her pregnancy on the sunny white sandy beach of Barbados seems to be getting quite a lot of publicity.

It is almost like some of the celebrities are taunting us, we don’t all have the ability to go to the Caribbean and sometimes flights are too infrequent to fit in with our holiday schedules, but not for much longer. We will be seeing a rise in flights to the Caribbean thanks to British Airways. This means that British Airways is strengthening its hold over the UK’s most frequent flights to the Caribbean. The new flights will be Arriving in October later this year.

Trevor McDonald has embarked on a travel documentary this year around all of the Caribbean islands. The most popular destination of all of these areas is the islands of Barbados and St Lucia. When you watch the documentary, it will become clear where the best places in the world are to go on holiday.

St Lucia holidays and weddings abroad seem to be something that interests all Celebrities, so if you want to feel like one, then give it a go.

Vacations In Exeter

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

When the majority of folk discuss England vacations they nearly always only mention seaside resorts such as Southport, Eastbourne, Bognor Regis and Clacton-on-Sea. Infrequently folk might think about having a short break in a particular English county for example the county of Devon in the south of England but not very often do they debate having a vacation in the city of Exeter. This article introduces various reasons why an Exeter vacation is a great idea.

Probably one of the most important reasons for having a short break in Exeter is that you will find cheap accommodation with bed and breakfast accommodation in Exeter available from about £25 per night and numerous rooms around the forty to fifty pounds range.

Obviously there has to be more than a minimal price to entice you to visit a city and Exeter certainly has loads to offer the possible visitor. You will discover that there are a great many top class visitor attractions in the city centre and even more not too far away and if that isn’t sufficient then the city of Plymouth is pretty close and you will discover that there is also low cost bed and breakfast in Plymouth and even more brilliant tourist attractions. Also you will find that there are plenty of breathtaking sites to see along the nearby coast.

Where To Stay In Exeter

The Drewe Arms
This accommodation is superb, it’s rooms are reasonably priced but the building itself is a picturesque seventeenth century thatched inn on the Two Moors Way walking route. It is important to know that it is roughly fifteen miles from Exeter’s city center. If you need more luxury the inn also has four-poster rooms available.

The Crawford Hotel
This accommodation is far closer to the center of the city, roughly 1.6 km. It is a two star establishment with good en suite accommodation and, crucially, you can access your room 24 hours a day, excellent if you are planning to have a long night out or if you will be needing to access the room during the day. You will find there is Free wireless internet access available in public areas of the hotel.

Visitor Attractions

In Exeter there are only a few of visitor attractions which merit a visit including; Rougemont Castle, St Peter’s Cathedral and the Royal Albert Museum. As mentioned earlier in this article there is a small selection of nearby seaside town and villages to visit the most beautiful being the old-fashioned villages of Beer, Seaton and Sidmouth.

Further away, between Exeter and Plymouth is the virtually unpopulated moorland of the Dartmoor National Park with the general region having several places to visit including A La Ronde, Buckfast Abbey and Buckland Abbey on the main road, to Plymouth. Along the way you will pass the Torbay area, which consists of Paignton, Torquay and Brixham and is frequently called the English Riviera.

Exeter truly is a superb city in which to take a vacation however why not have a think about having a 2 destination vacation and spend a few of days/nights in a really plush hotel in Plymouth and travel around the splendid countryside and coast in between the 2 superb vacation destinations?

Weekend Breaks In Perth And Three Brilliant Visitor Attractions Worth Visiting

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Perth in Scotland a former royal burgh can be found at the head of the Tay estuary. Between the C12th and C15th the city fought with Dunfermline for the title to be the capital of the country. In the article below I write about three places to visit in Perth, Scotland; Elcho Castle, Scone Palace and Huntingtower Castle:

Scone Palace

Today, home of the Earls of Mansfield is Scone Palace, and a immensely popular attraction to visitors from across the globe. The palace of Scone is an integral part of the history of Scotland, as the kings of Scotland were once crowned there. Robert the Bruce was crowned at Scone Palace, in 1306, as was Charles II when he took ownership of the Scottish Crown in 1651. There is a beautiful and mysterious atmosphere to the palace, which is justifiably so.In the past the site acted as an important gathering place of the Picts and there was also a church on the site said to be early christian.

Elcho Castle

Lying about 3 miles from the city of Perth, with breathtaking views across the River Tay, is Elcho Castle. The castle is one of the prime examples of 16th century workmanship in Scotland today. The Wemyss family authorized the building of the castle in the 1570’s. The land had been in the family since 1468, when it was granted to them by King James III. In 1633, the leader of the family was given the titles of Earl of Wemyss and Lord Elcho. Elcho Castle and it’s lands remained in possession of the Wemyss family until 1929. It was then, the 11th Earl of Wemyss, gifted the castle to Scotland. The castle has recently been restored and is now in the hands of Historic Scotland.

Huntingtower Castle

Located just to the west of Perth is the medieval pile of Huntingtower Castle. Even though the castle is medieval in origin, it has been significantly redeveloped throughout the majoprity of it’s history. The Ruthven family were the owners of the lands and castle from the 1100’s to the 1600’s. During this time the castle consisted of two separate towers, built 3 meters apart. When the Murray family took occupancy, later on in the seventeenth century, they decided to amalgamate the two towers, making the house appear more like a conventional country abode. The bridging work between the two towers is still rather noticeable today, both inside and out.

If you are thinking about a city vacation in Perth you will discover a large amount of online Perth hotels and guest houses and you will discover a huge selection at http://www.perthhotelscotland.com/

Tips For Acquiring A Family Vacation Bargain

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Family life is far too often stressful with different members of the family having arguments. Over time the home can develop a tense atmosphere. It is at this moment, or hopefully earlier that everyone should debate taking a two week vacation, afterwards, the atmosphere should return to a favorable state.  Unfortunately in the vast majority of cases people are witnessing financial difficulties, so how can we afford a family vacation?

Tips For Getting A Vacation Bargain

The first thing to grasp is that there are a great many travel companies competing for your business and during this current depression a sale can be crucial for any of these booking agencies. This detail means that you should bag yourself a bargain by reducing the costs of the vacation otherwise you can get some additional extras added. Another advantage to taking a vacation locally is that you can keep an eye out for cheap vacation accommodation opportunities and grab them quickly. Another way to cut costs is to look out for canceled vacation opportunities and late availability.

Another fact to decide upon is the vacation destination. Visiting another country is now is a little more expensive that it was only a short time ago. You may be forced to think about taking your vacation nearer to home or take a vacation for a shorter period. Sometimes we fail to see the beauty of nearby places because we view them so often. Also we very often fail to take advantage of the amenities closest to us. Occasionally the mere mention of you reducing the amount of time spent on vacation throws the operator into a state of worry over losing the sale and he/she will try harder to cut costs.

Taking your family on vacation will give you quality time for you and your family and enjoying your time together a great way to reduce stress and tension. When you return home you will very soon notice a vast improvement in attitude and relations and the exciting news is that this mood will last for quite a while.

The above article is rather a basic introduction to vacation for the family. If you feel that you have something to offer why not write your own article or even begin blogging. Increasing numbers of folk are blogging and starting your own is incredibly easy. Bloggers do not even need to be concerned about their blogs design as there are a great many sites offering lots of different Wordpress themes for free including those offered by Free Website Templates 4U. Bloggers can view their latest Wordpress themes at their own blog at http://freewordpressthemes.freewebsitetemplates4u.com/
