Drew Wheelan checks out the beaches around Pensacola, Florida for oil and the boiling water seen on other youtube videos. There he finds lots of oil covered by sand brought in by the high tides, and an amazingly expensive and ineffective clean up effort that leaves behind oil to accumulate in the food chain.
pcola.me The beach is covered in oil tonight. I walked for two hours from near Peg Legs west about one mile past the Fort Pickens gate and saw nothing but oil everywhere and maybe a dozen clean up people half of which were working.
A cap is back in place on BP’s broken oil well after a deep-sea blunder forced crews to temporarily remove what has been the most effective method so far of containing some of the massive Mexican Gulf oil spill. Engineers used remote-controlled submarines to reposition the cap after it was off for much of the day. It had captured 700000 gallons (2.7 million liters) of oil in 24 hours before one of the robots bumped into it. Meanwhile white Florida beaches are now turning black. Video by Michael McLean.
The oil giant BP is planning to install a new cap on the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico by Monday. However, oil will once again temporarily gush into the sea as engineers begin the process of replacing the existing containment device. The Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in late April killing 11 people. Considered the worst spill in US history, the ecological disaster has caused damage to marine life and vast coastal areas.
