Spa Breaks – Nudity Not Required!
Friday, May 28th, 2010There are many reasons why someone may be reluctant to use a spa treatment venue such as a hotel spa. For some it may be such an expense that they have no way of affording. Some venues are particularly expensive, and as such cut some people out of the equation. They might feel the cost is too much and therefore avoid taking spa treatments in favour of something a little less costly.
However, one reason for avoiding spa treatments, even when they are given as a gift, is because people are afraid that they may have to ‘go nude’.
There’s really nothing to worry about, though. In the larger resort spas, there are generally saunas and steam rooms in separate male and female changing areas. This affords you a significant level of privacy and should, for most people, get rid of those self conscious issues that prevent them from truly enjoying their time in the spa.
Besides, most places allow you to change into a robe and slippers as soon as you get there. This goes a long way towards making you feel welcome and comfortable. This generally happens as soon as you book in. In some places there are private changing rooms where you can preserve your dignity entirely.
When in public areas, there is some common sense to be observed when it comes to your body and what is on show. This is not to say that anyone intentionally shows their body parts, but accidents do sometimes happen. Remember that clothing is loose and can show more than you want it to at times. When wearing a robe in a communal area like a spa lounge be careful how you sit and how you move around. Larger men in particular have to take special care when they sit down in a robe.
As stated already in this article, you can wear underwear if you want to. However, having your skin massaged in the traditional way does require nudity. It is part of the massage tradition, but spas won’t set out to make you feel embarrassed!
