With Brits wrapping up for winter across the globe Aussies are lapping up the Sun as they prepare for their summer! Beach Night Markets – This is not your ordinary market, with over 75 stalls set on the beach at St Kilda you can spend all night wondering through the exceptionally wide variety of stalls. This market happens on the Thursday through December and begins on the 3rd. Whether you are after clothes, jewellery or just a bit of a nose there really is something for everyone and one of the best atmospheres you won’t forget in a hurry.  

Christmas Carnival – To get you really in the Christmas spirit Alive Springs Christmas carnival provides plenty of xmas cheer! The carnival is very hectic but lots of fun with music, circus performers and magicians. If you’ve got children this night will be guaranteed success with market stalls offering arts and crafts and also the Universal Solar Garden. Don’t miss this carnival it begins on the 11th.   

Sydney New Year Fireworks – Famous throughout the world and something that cannot be missed! Sydney bridge and opera house as the backdrop to this event you won’t see a more special, beautiful fireworks show. Being the largest fireworks display in the world you’re in for quite a treat and makes Sydney the only city to see in 2010. As well as the New Year fireworks shows Sydney also has the Sydney Festival which highlights the hottest talent from Australia and includes music, dance, theatre and visual arts.

Situated just fifteen minutes north of Lanzarote´s international airport at Arrecife Costa Teguise was initially designed as the island’s upmarket resort.  And during the 1980´s it proved very successful at attracting moneyed visitors from countries such as Germany, Sweden and Denmark.

Costa Teguise´s excellent beaches and wide open plan feel helped to establish this as the second most popular spot on the island during the 1980´s.  But that crown slipped somewhat during the 1990´s as the resort rival of Playa Blanca was developed at the southern end of the island.  However it still remains an attractive destination and there’s plenty of hotels and holiday villas in Costa Teguise for visitors to choose from.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca was the last of the main resorts on the island to be developed during the 1990´s.  And has quickly emerged to become the second most popular destination on the island – thanks to a winning combination of great beaches and fantastic weather.  As well as a fine range of hotels and holiday villas.

What an absolutely terrible weekend it has been.

The English weather has been totally abysmal and the poor folks living in North West England certainly seem to have endured their fair share of misery this past weekend.

Personally I can’t remember a time when the rainfall was this heavy.    It seems relentless and never ending.

To try and cheer myself up I have decided to think about booking a nice relaxing break. Usually I enjoy taking action packed holidays. However, the past year has been unbelievably taxing and I am now feeling the need to escape this grotty country and go somewhere where I can be spoilt rotten and feel the stress seeping away.

I was originally looking to visit the Caribbean as there seems to be a vast array of Caribbean Spa Holidays currently on offer.    However some of the Spa Holidays in India look so beautiful that it is going to be a difficult decision to choose between the 2 destinations.   I honestly never realised there were so many spa hotels to choose from, the list is endless. It’s so hard to choose a particular hotel, as they all seem to be absolutely magnificent and each of them has it’s own charm.  However, they all seem to have in common some fantastic facilities and brilliant activities.

After reading about the classes on offer, I will definitely be booking in for a yoga class or 2. I used to attend Pilates classes a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed them.    I would imagine that Yoga is fairly similar in that it is very disciplined and controlled and makes you think about your body and how you hold yourself.

I am also going to book a place at a few of the meditation classes. My brain always seems to be on the go, especially during the night, so I feel that meditation classes would be great for me.     The trouble is I find it very hard to switch off from my work and I get really worried that I haven’t done something I should have done. Maybe when I get back from my holiday, I may have picked up a few meditation tips that will enable me to switch off and get a good nights sleep – here’s hoping!

Africa and Egypt have the reputation for being the place where people originated and have heavily maintained the theoretical title that it holds the oldest civilizations known to man. However what if there were some contenders that haven’t really been recognised, mainly that in Canada?

It was recently discovered that there may actually have been a civilization (not very advanced) that lived in the Vancouver area over ten thousand years in the past. There is great support for this, mainly because of Canada’s Ecosystem. The ecosystem around Vancouver at this time is shown to have the properties required to support human like life. There wouldn’t be much of a problem for hunting in this case. The people that would have lived here were known as the Coast Salish, who would supposedly still have some descendants today.

However like every other country in the world, Vancouver evolved, once discovered by Europeans, industrialisation was begun. Jose Maria Narvaez sailed past the place which would become Vancouver but didn’t actually stop to survey or map it out.

George Vancouver was a British man, and he mapped out and surveyed the area where Vancouver stands now. After surveying and patrolling this area for many years, it was named after him a hundred years later. New Westminster was then named as the capital of British Columbia in 1859. Vancouver was established in 1866 when British Columbia merged with the smaller version of Vancouver.

Many people actually refer to Vancouver as being one of the most culturally diverse and accepting cities on the planet. There are more than fifty percent of people that have a first language that isn’t English. However Vancouver has something else in it’s past that trumps all others, and that is the crazy Klondike Gold rush something that really made Canada big..

I was all packed and ready to go on holiday with my fiancée when she came down with a really bad stomach ache, the day before we were going to leave. We both were looking forward to this holiday, and it was the only time that we could get off work. So there wasn’t anything for us to do, just sitting at home.

As we cancelled our holiday, a friend told us about the Virtual holidays. Now I had never heard of anything called a “Virtual holiday”, and was a bit dubious. If you can’t move about easily then this is great, the site takes you through all the cities you want. It’s a great opportunity for those that can’t actually leave the bed, to view these holiday experiences.

I was starting to think, what is this all about, I am not thinking about this at all. I just imagined that you had someone walking around with a hand held camera, with a little bit of odd commentary following.

This was actually a lot more diverse and more intricate than I could imagine. You don’t have to pay for all of these holidays online, some do actually do it for free as well. We paid for a tour round New York, which is where we were going to go. The tour included several locations, clearly labelling to us where it was we would be going, and what we would be seeing. We went into this video expecting only a small tour of the city, and we got so much more out of it, exploring museums and seeing all the great sights.

The following commentary was very good and described a lot of what we wanted. Virtual holidays could be the next big thing and it looks as though they are spreading to new locations.

Rock Climbing: Thailand has irresistible limestone rock formations, and seasoned climbers have been coming here for years. It sets itself apart from other elephant camps by promoting elephant tourism based on respect and dignity for the animals. There are no rides or soccer-playing elephants here, but you do get to interact with them and bathe them.

Lanzarote is one of Spain´s most popular holiday destinations.With an enduring appeal for visitors from Northern Europe.  And at just four hours flying time this is the closest winter sun option for tourists in countries such as the UK and Germany.  But what exactly is the appeal of the Island of Fire?

1) Climate
