Experience the Canary Island of Lanzarote

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Lanzarote is a popular holiday island, located in the Canaries.  Which are the seven strong Spanish owned island group situated off the coast of West Africa.  On the same line of longitude as parts of Mexico and the Bahamas.  Enabling visitors to enjoy great weather whatever the time of the year. This clement climate has helped to establish the Canaries as one of the most visited destinations in Spain.  And during the course of 2008 alone over 1.5 million foreign tourists enjoyed holidays in Lanzarote – the fourth largest and most easterly island in the group.

So lets find out why family holidays in Lanzarote remain so popular and choosing one of the villas in Lanzarote that the island has to offer is fast becoming the popular holiday accommodation  choice amongst travellers.

Lanzarote is very different from the other islands in the Canaries.  As they are all greener and more lush, whilst Lanzarote is dry and barren.  Which can be attributed to the fact that Lanzarote experiences very little in the way of rainfall and has a very arid terrain created by volcanic eruptions over 250 years ago.

Today this region of the island occupies about a quarter of Lanzarote´s total land mass.  And is a hugely popular visitor attraction, known locally as The Fire Mountains or Timanfaya.  Where visitors can view a lunar like landscape that has served as a backdrop for a number of science fiction films and most recently the latest release from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, Broken Embraces.  Which stars Penelope Cruz and which was shot on location around the island.

There are plenty of places to stay on the island.  With visitors able to choose from a large selection of Lanzarote villas, hotels and apartments.  The bulk of which are located in the main resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.  Whilst rural tourism has also started to grow in popularity over the last few years.

There are over ninety beaches for visitors to explore.  Many of these are man made in the resorts – using sand imported from the Sahara.  So tourists should head for coastal villages such as Famara and Arrieta to experience the best all natural stretches of sand on the island.

Many first time visitors are surprised by the wide range of cultural attractions on offer too.  After all isn’t this supposed to be Lanzagrotty?  There’s an abundance of fascinating museums, such as the Emigration Museum which charts what happened to islanders after the volcanic eruptions as they fled to create new lives abroad.  A wealth of historic towns such as Teguise – the island capital until 1852.  And the various works of the local artist Cesar Manrique – who had a huge influence on the development of tourism on Lanzarote.

Would You Enjoy A Restful Nights Sleep?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

What an absolutely terrible weekend it has been.

The English weather has been totally abysmal and the poor folks living in North West England certainly seem to have endured their fair share of misery this past weekend.

Personally I can’t remember a time when the rainfall was this heavy.    It seems relentless and never ending.

To try and cheer myself up I have decided to think about booking a nice relaxing break. Usually I enjoy taking action packed holidays. However, the past year has been unbelievably taxing and I am now feeling the need to escape this grotty country and go somewhere where I can be spoilt rotten and feel the stress seeping away.

I was originally looking to visit the Caribbean as there seems to be a vast array of Caribbean Spa Holidays currently on offer.    However some of the Spa Holidays in India look so beautiful that it is going to be a difficult decision to choose between the 2 destinations.   I honestly never realised there were so many spa hotels to choose from, the list is endless. It’s so hard to choose a particular hotel, as they all seem to be absolutely magnificent and each of them has it’s own charm.  However, they all seem to have in common some fantastic facilities and brilliant activities.

After reading about the classes on offer, I will definitely be booking in for a yoga class or 2. I used to attend Pilates classes a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed them.    I would imagine that Yoga is fairly similar in that it is very disciplined and controlled and makes you think about your body and how you hold yourself.

I am also going to book a place at a few of the meditation classes. My brain always seems to be on the go, especially during the night, so I feel that meditation classes would be great for me.     The trouble is I find it very hard to switch off from my work and I get really worried that I haven’t done something I should have done. Maybe when I get back from my holiday, I may have picked up a few meditation tips that will enable me to switch off and get a good nights sleep – here’s hoping!

What is so special about Vancouver?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Africa and Egypt have the reputation for being the place where people originated and have heavily maintained the theoretical title that it holds the oldest civilizations known to man. However what if there were some contenders that haven’t really been recognised, mainly that in Canada?

It was recently discovered that there may actually have been a civilization (not very advanced) that lived in the Vancouver area over ten thousand years in the past. There is great support for this, mainly because of Canada’s Ecosystem. The ecosystem around Vancouver at this time is shown to have the properties required to support human like life. There wouldn’t be much of a problem for hunting in this case. The people that would have lived here were known as the Coast Salish, who would supposedly still have some descendants today.

However like every other country in the world, Vancouver evolved, once discovered by Europeans, industrialisation was begun. Jose Maria Narvaez sailed past the place which would become Vancouver but didn’t actually stop to survey or map it out.

George Vancouver was a British man, and he mapped out and surveyed the area where Vancouver stands now. After surveying and patrolling this area for many years, it was named after him a hundred years later. New Westminster was then named as the capital of British Columbia in 1859. Vancouver was established in 1866 when British Columbia merged with the smaller version of Vancouver.

Many people actually refer to Vancouver as being one of the most culturally diverse and accepting cities on the planet. There are more than fifty percent of people that have a first language that isn’t English. However Vancouver has something else in it’s past that trumps all others, and that is the crazy Klondike Gold rush something that really made Canada big..

So are you searching for great Canada holidays this annum, or just a vacation in general, well if you like history, then surely Vancouver holidays have to be on your list, if not then why not Toronto holidays!

Winter Sun Holidays in Lanzarote

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Summer may be over in mainland Spain but there are outposts where the season never ends.  Such as the Canaries – the seven islands which are situated just off the coast of West Africa, many hundreds of miles south of the Iberian Peninsula.  A location that creates a great climate all year round.

As a result the Canaries welcome visitors throughout the year and after Catalonia are the second most popular holiday destination in Spain.  Arrivals have fallen by around 20% during 2009 thanks to the current economic crisis.  But millions of tourists will still be booking holidays in the region this autumn, despite the downturn.

The Canaries are just four hours flying time from the UK.  Making these islands the closest winter destination to sun starved Northern Europe.  And this year the cost of flights to Lanzarote are set to fall – thanks to growing competition on this route between the big guns of the low cost flight world, easyJet and Ryanair.  The latter has firmly switched their focus to the Canaries this winter and will be operating 16 new services to Lanzarote from airports across the UK.

So what can visitors expect from their winter holidays on these volcanic islands?  On Lanzarote the temperature usually remains in the early 20´s Celsius – even during the darkest days of December.  With very little rainfall and plenty of sunshine hours.  The sun doesn’t set here until 6pm at the earliest either.  Making it a great destination for those who hate the dark winter afternoons of the UK.

Accommodation standards are high – as the island has been welcoming tourists for over forty years.  Choose from chic rural hotels, budget apartments and luxury villas in Lanzarote.  With the bulk of holidays now booked direct on online thanks to the growth in internet usage over the last five years.

Naturally as in any service business the increase in demand for Lanzarote apartments and villas is good news for long and short stay visitors to Lanzarote as property owners are being driven to ensure accommodation is well furnished, and all mod cons and traditional extras are now included gratis

Playa Blanca is the resort to head for if you’re planning a winter break on the island.  As thanks to it’s southerly location it enjoys the best weather and most sunshine hours.  As well as boasting some of the best beaches on the island.  There’s a decent selection of villas in Playa Blanca for holidaymakers to choose from too.  With high quality rental properties available in areas such as Rubicon Marina and Costa Papagayo.  And with prices starting from around £400 per week for a standard two bedroom villa with pool.

The island is a great all year holiday destination with many outstanding resorts. Follow the links for even more information about Playa Blanca villas in particular or other Lanzarote villas and apartments.

Holidays at home in Egypt?

Monday, December 21st, 2009

I was all packed and ready to go on holiday with my fiancée when she came down with a really bad stomach ache, the day before we were going to leave. We both were looking forward to this holiday, and it was the only time that we could get off work. So there wasn’t anything for us to do, just sitting at home.

As we cancelled our holiday, a friend told us about the Virtual holidays. Now I had never heard of anything called a “Virtual holiday”, and was a bit dubious. If you can’t move about easily then this is great, the site takes you through all the cities you want. It’s a great opportunity for those that can’t actually leave the bed, to view these holiday experiences.

I was starting to think, what is this all about, I am not thinking about this at all. I just imagined that you had someone walking around with a hand held camera, with a little bit of odd commentary following.

This was actually a lot more diverse and more intricate than I could imagine. You don’t have to pay for all of these holidays online, some do actually do it for free as well. We paid for a tour round New York, which is where we were going to go. The tour included several locations, clearly labelling to us where it was we would be going, and what we would be seeing. We went into this video expecting only a small tour of the city, and we got so much more out of it, exploring museums and seeing all the great sights.

The following commentary was very good and described a lot of what we wanted. Virtual holidays could be the next big thing and it looks as though they are spreading to new locations.

We had fun trying this holiday, although it isnt the same as the actual thing, it is similar, we would like to try the Egypt holidays or Maldives holidays one, where the holidays are far too expensive for us to try, maybe Christmas holidays just got a lot less inexpensive?

Thailand Holidays : Ideas To Make Your Trip One To Remember!

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Thailand is the perfect place to spend a holiday. Why? Well, for starters, it has stunning rainforests, incredible mountain ranges, and beautiful beaches. While Thailand is most famous for its beaches, there is so much more adventure to find in this amazing country. From flying through the jungle like a monkey, to lady-boy’s strutting their stuff, to the biggest water fight in the world, Thailand delivers some serious adventure goods. Here are just a few ideas to spice up your trip…

Zipline Canopy Tour: The Flight of the Gibbon Adventure Tour lies just outside Chiang Mai in a 15 centuries old rainforest. You can access the top and middle layers of this rainforest through a combination of platforms, sky bridges and ziplines. It can be a little bit fast and scary, but it is totally safe, and there are plenty of families that get involved as well as your typical adrenalin junkies.

Songkran Festival: Songkran is one of the most celebrated festivals of Thailand. It begins on the 13th of April and lasts for about 3-10 days, depending on which part of Thailand you are in. It is a time when Thai people, and tourists in the country, come together to celebrate the new Solar Year. The main way of celebrating this festival is to throw water over as many people as possible and, as such, the whole of Thailand becomes one big water fight battle ground. As this takes place at the hottest time of the year in Thailand, it is not only fun to get involved, it is also refreshing too!

Rock Climbing: Thailand has irresistible limestone rock formations, and seasoned climbers have been coming here for years. Adventurous tourists are also attracted, and several guiding companies have met that demand. Of the many available, Wee’s Climbing School is considered to the best in the south of South Thailand, and Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures the best in the North.

Elephant Parks: There are quite a few elephant parks in Thailand but the best, certainly in northern Thailand, is the Elephant Nature Park. It was built in the 1990’s and is set in a gorgeous valley that is surrounded by a river and mountains. The park is located in the province of Chiang Mai, about 60km from the city, and it has provided a home to more than thirty distressed elephants from all over Thailand. The basic aim of this park is to provide a rescue center and a sanctuary for the elephants. It sets itself apart from other elephant camps by promoting elephant tourism based on respect and dignity for the animals. There are no rides or soccer-playing elephants here, but you do get to interact with them and bathe them.

Five Reasons To Visit Lanzarote

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Lanzarote is one of Spain´s most popular holiday destinations. With an enduring appeal for visitors from Northern Europe.  And at just four hours flying time this is the closest winter sun option for tourists in countries such as the UK and Germany.  But what exactly is the appeal of the Island of Fire?

1) Climate

The key to Lanzarote´s popularity as a holiday destination lies in the fact that the island enjoys fantastic weather all year round.  It´s located just off the coast of Africa. So there´s plenty of sunshine and very little rainfall.  Along with average temperatures of 22 Celsius.

This makes it warm enough to enjoy beach holidays and days by the pool all year round.

2) Beaches

There are close to 100 beaches dotting the coastline.  The three main resorts of Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen all boast striking stretches of sand.  But these playas are man made – using sand from the nearby Sahara.

So beach lovers in search of an all natural experience need to get out and explore.

Locals tend to agree that the most impressive beach on the island is Famara.  Due to its sheer size – measuring around 8km long.  And because it is flanked by the impressive Famara massif range of cliffs.

Over popular playas includes the stretches of white sand which are collectively known as Caleton Blanco in the north of the island, on route to Orzola.  As well as the pretty little beach – Playa de Garita – located in the seaside village of Arrieta.

3) Scenery

The scenery on Lanzarote really is unique and out of this world. Thanks to the fact that the island endured lenghty eruptions in the 1730´s.  Which transformed the interior – replacing farming land with seas of solidified lava and burnt out volcanoes.

The rest of the island boasts a more conventional beauty.  With plenty of stunning spots such as the Valley of 1000 Palms and the Green Lagoon at El Golfo to explore.

4) Tourist Attractions

Mention Lanzarote and the name César Manrique soon crops ups.  His work adorns everything here from coffee mugs and car stickers through to roundabouts and hotel walls.

He also created Lanzarote´s main visitor attractions such as the Cactus Garden and the Jameos del Agua.  Whilst also campaigning for the controlled development of tourism.Succesfully securing bans on ad hoardings and high rise buildings in the process.

5) Accommodation

There are plenty of places to stay in Lanzarote. The island offers everything from studio apartments through to five star hotels.

Holiday villas in Playa Blanca are especially popular.  As the growth of the internet means that tourists are now able to book their own accommodation direct online with the owners.Bringing down the cost of holidays in Lanzarote.

Experience a Holiday in Lanzarote

Friday, December 4th, 2009

The popular holiday island of Lanzarote is located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. And is part of the Canarian archipelago, once thought by scholars to be the remnants of the lost city of Atlantis.  In more modern times though Lanzarote has become an exceptionally popular holiday destination welcoming millions of travellers each year .

Yet these seven Spanish owned islands are by no means all birds of a feather, As each has its own separate character and culture.  A typical example of this is the governance of the islands with the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura being governed from Las Palmas on Gran Canaria.  Whilst El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma are governed from Tenerife.

Lanzarote hasn’t only been a recent tourist destination though as the islands has been attracting British and foreign visitors since the 1900’s .  But more modern tourism was stifled for many years by the political regime of General Franco, and didn’t really start again until the 70’s As the area was in desperate need of a boost to its economy after years of restriction.

It’s amazing how the calming effect of time can change fortunes and today the island welcomes visitors that number into the millions as they arrive from all over Europe and other parts of the world, and bizarrely even tourist from the Spanish mainland.  Many of whom seek to swap the oven like heat of the peninsula for the cooler and more temperate climes of the Canaries during August.

Holiday trends have changed in recent years and with an upsurge in internet usage coupled with excellent transportation links to the Island, independent travellers are on the increase.  This has led to an upsurge in demand for apartments and villas in Lanzarote. With self catering holiday accommodation in the main resorts making up a sizeable proportion of the total amount of tourist beds now available on the island.

The most luxurious private rental villas in Puerto del Carmen can be located in areas such as Risco Prieto.  Which sits right at the top of the Old Town, overlooking the picturesque harbour area which is currently under development into a luxury marina.

Whilst travellers looking for villas in Playa Blanca should concentrate their search on the Montana Roja and Rubicon Marina areas.  As this area has a particularly wide range of quality rental accommodation at reasonable prices.

Not all holidays are cantered around the coastal resorts however, and as more tourist prefer to experience the true atmosphere of the island, rural holiday are increasing in popularity.  Visitors that take time out to tour the island are amazed to find out how unspoiled it is .  This ultimately prompts many to return time and time again to experience the real Lanzarote in countryside fincas and rural apartments.

Why are all holidays for Christmas booked in September and October, but no later!

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

So does it look as though Christmas holidays are dropping in bookings? People have learnt that to get these holidays, you need to book early, especially to get the speical offers. Christmas time for the holiday’s district, sales reach a peak in September and October, then fall dramatically in November.

Now why is it that these holiday bookings have dropped so much in recent weeks? Booking a Christmas holiday needs be done in advance. Make sure that if you want one of these holidays at Christmas time, to book well in advance, about 3 months should do it. Christmas is stressful, and booking around this time is even worse, trying to arrange a holiday during the hardest time of the year, is quite challenging. Having to pile on the stress of booking a holiday just before Christmas can be annoying even for the most organised of people.

So the best option is to look at these holidays around September and the latest October, then to just forget about it. It is very hard to book holidays to exotic locations at times like these, you need to get the booking quickly. Cuba holidays or Egypt holidays are very difficult to arrange towards Christmas time. These holidays are packed throughout the year, so when it comes to booking at Christmas it is quite difficult.

Barbados and St Lucia have also been popular this year, people have been trying to book holidays to these places in September, only to find they are all booked up. There are only a few select places around where you can still find holidays to Exotic and luxury locations still available. Many tour operators have had to cancel holidays that they have been offering, because they are already sold out.

Hopefully you have your Christmas holidays already booked, otherwise it could be very difficult to get one now, especially seeing as we are getting so close to the recession, and not to mention the deals were so good.

The Top Hotels to visit at Christmas time in the Tropical World!

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Looking for the top places to go on holiday for your Christmas this year? Time is running out and you don’t have time to research locations. SO here are the top 3 places in the world that you could go to for your Christmas holiday this year:

Barbados. Discovery Bay by Rex Resorts is one amazing place for you to take your Christmas holidays. This is a luxury resort, but the holidays usually retail at quite a modest price, most of the time under one thousand pounds for a week. There are some clear and peaceful beaches, with very clear waters. Bridgetown is the closest place to venture too from this hotel, and is not too mention the largest and most vibrant town in Barbados. Barbados is considered the party island of the Caribbean.

The Island that is St Lucia. This is definitely a holiday for those that like to relax and get some spa treatment, the Le Sport is truly amazing. Every room in the hotel has air conditioning so you can be kept cool all day, and non stop room service. So for the laziest holiday of your life, not to mention the most relaxing one. There are a whole range of activities that you could take part in, ranging from; fencing and archery, right the way through to golfing and table tennis. All of these activities come with training as well. If you have a little more money to burn, you can head down to the Capital of St Lucia, Castries, to get some much wanted shopping done This is close to St Lucia.

The Maldives. This is one of the most expensive hotels around, and the most expensive on our list, the Lily Beach Resort and Spa. This is the most luxurious of all our locations as well, rated at a 5 and a half to 6 star qualities. If you want somewhere to stay where you can get away from people and spend a week or two in the middle of nowhere, then this is as close to heaven that you are going to get. The island is relatively small and is called “Huvahedhoo” and the hotel is actually situated on stilts over the sea. A very stunning hotel.

Maldives holidays, Dubai holidays and Sri Lanka holidays are well on the rise and this is thanks to the holidays on offer.
