Sleep Snug and Warm in a Double Sleeping Bag

Did you know that t wo people sleep much warmer if they are in a double sleeping bag together, than when they sleep apart in single sleeping bags.

All sleeping bags are made to separate you from the cold air around you, and capture your natural body heat to keep you warm during the night. The air is caught in the insulation of your sleeping bag, and is warmed by your healthy body heat. You then find yourself snug and warm in your sleeping bag . That is where you sleep warm from your own body heat .

With two people sleeping side-by-side inside a double sleeping bag (or two single bags zipped together) they automatically warm each other as well as the double sleeping bag; which means there is twice as much body heat to go around.

That way you can sleep really warm and cozy, even on a cold night. Just snuggle together a little closer and grab all that body warmth!

So because of this closeness, I would only recommend placing two people together in a double sleeping bag if they are already a couple, and are obviously in love. That kind of closeness encourages other activities, which should be obvious .

There is one particular situation where you might have to place two (or even three) people together in a double sleeping bag, or place them inside two sleeping bags zipped up tightly together. That situation is an life-threatening situation that happens quite often when people have been outdoors in wet and cold and/or windy weather, and when someone among your group falls ill with   exposure (hypothermia). If this ever happens to somebody while you are hiking in the wilds or out mountain climbing, you must stop walking immediately and pitch a tent to keep out the wind and snow or rain .

Undress the casualty and put him or her, unclothed , into a sleeping bag together with one or two other healthy people . The purpose is to exchange life-saving body heat across to the weakened person. (They will almost certainly appear confused, repeatedly falling down , falling asleep , and the like .) That person’s life is in danger because hypothermia is a killer! Keep them safe and warm inside the tent and sleeping bag, and send others to bring help immediately. If you have a personal distress beacon, activate it .

All kinds of outdoor sleeping bags are manufactured in varying qualities that range from awful , to expensive heirlooms that will probably be in good condition long after you have gone to your maker . Be prepared to pay more to get  a better quality sleeping bag, and then you are much less likely to be disappointed . I suggest you look at some double sleeping bags in more than one camping store and tell the salesman exactly what you want . Check out the loft of the insulation , check the stitching and test that the zipper slides easily. Make a choice that you can live with.
