Family Florida Vacation– What's the best area for a young mom and dad and their 2yr old daughter?

August 7th, 2011

Hello Everyone,
My wife and I are planning on heading south for a little vacation. We want to be in Florida may 7-14. I have never been there and we are making the trip from Ohio. We are planning on hitting the gulf side and looking at either sarasota or ft. meyers currently. Our little girl loves the water, and we plan on spending most of our time at the beach. Is the water warm enough around this time? I looked on weather.com and it shows sarasota at mid 80′s in May. What are some other areas you would recommend for a family. We love being outdoors, and are wanting to know some other ideas for our vacation. Please help us out! We are open to any suggestions. Thanks

Looking for a Florida vacation that "feels" like Hawaii?

July 29th, 2011

My husband and I used to live in CA and enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii. Now that we live in TX and have a toddler, we’re fairly sure we can’t do the 8.5 hour flight that it would take to get us there. We’d like to take a "tropical" vacation without leaving the mainland…is there somewhere in Florida that has super white sand beaches…warm water, etc. and is really kid friendly like the island of Oahu? I don’t know anything about the state and have heard varying things about Miami, Destin, the Keys, etc. Would love to hear from you if you’ve taken a beach vacation to Florida and thought it was just awesome! (Or, maybe there’s another state that offers what we’re looking for? Myrtle Beach, etc?)
Thanks!

What to do for Florida vacation?

July 28th, 2011

My friend and I are thinking of going to Florida in early September. We love the outdoors and theme parks. We would like to go kayak, air boat, cliff jumping, jet ski, hike/bike if any, lounging at beaches, snorkeling, and anything else outdoors that’s a blast.

We would like to know where the best places for these if they are available and any other suggestions for what to do down there.

Greater Florida — Vacation Advice and Stuff To Do?

July 27th, 2011

I’m a regular guy from Minnesota (pretty harsh winter here now) who is 36 years old, and my girlfriend and I recently made plans to fly to Orlando over the January 27-31 weekend and take a cruise ship to the Bahamas for a few days. I just graduated law school a few days ago, and my girlfriend just finished her grad school program as well — so we thought we’d skip town for a few days to get to some warm weather and celebrate. Problem is, she just dumped me the other day, so now I guess I’m flying solo. I might be able to refund the cruise fare I spent (vacation insurance), not sure on that yet. But I can’t refund the airfare, so I’m headed to Orlando for a few days, arriving Thursday night and leaving Monday night. I’ve never been on an overnight cruise before, but it sounded like fun to do (as a couple). But cruising solo, I’m not sure about that? Any thoughts or ideas of fun stuff to do in Florida for an extended weekend? I figure that I’ll rent a car in Orlando and see where it takes me. I’m usually up for decent live music, good beer and stuff like that, but for this vacation I was actually just looking forward to relaxing on the beach with some drinks, etc. Should I go on the cruise solo? Or should I stay on land and find a good beach spot somewhere? What is better for warm weather and good beaches this time of year — the Gulf Coast or the Atlantic Coast? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
