When a woman is travelling on her own, many conceive that she will be unsafe because of her delicate nature; however, for the woman of today, this is one challenge which can be taken care of. Following are a few guidelines that may be of help to female travellers.

Your Attire

Before your departure, you must know about where you are travelling, what is the local culture and what kind of clothing will be suitable according to the climate. A little research about the destination will enable you to plan your wardrobe accordingly and save you from climate extremes. Another reason for doing this is to help you learn about the customs of the place you are heading to, thus helping you blend in with the locals rather than standing out and becoming a target for harassment by local men.

Advance Reservations

Your residence while your journey is also one of the most important aspect. If you actually leave your home without a confirmation of your hotel’s booking, you will very likely end up in a dodgy hotel with no proper security. Hotels Fairy, being a part of the campaign of, Know Before You Go, is capable of finding the best hotel deals through its hotel price comparison site.

Say no to Extravaganza!

Avoid looking rich when you are travelling alone so that you are not very noticeable to thugs and mobsters. Jewellery should also be off your checklist before you travel, because it attracts muggers to you. Even avoid wearing fake jewellery because that would only anger thieves and make them vent out their frustration on you.

Theives are operating now!

When visiting a place full of hubbub, you will have to be extra careful as an open party or festival are places where you may find most of the thieves operating. A solution to this is to move as a bunch of other female tourists from your native land. In case you cannot find any female travelers, keep your money somewhere other than your purse.

Always Have a Map/GPRS Tracker in Your Purse

To know where exactly you are travelling or heading, it is better to keep a map with you all the time. Such a practice will still maintain your independence and save you from the tricks of the local people. Moreover, a GPRS tracker is an even wiser choice so that it can lead you to your hotel just in case you are lost.

Consider Safety Measures in Your Hotel Room

Although the hotel price comparison site, Hotels Fairy gives you the best hotels and lists all the features, but it is advisable that you at least keep a chair under the doorknob so as to save yourself from intruders and robbers at night.

Overall, travelling alone should be fun for you and not intimidating. Stay safe and enjoy your voyage.

You should find some great places to eat on your holiday in Coolum Beach. There are many good restaurants and cafes that offer a variety of good food. You may choose from a multitude of restaurants that serve different cuisines such as Modern Australian, Mediterranean, Asian, Italian foods to mention a few favourites. You can have breakfast near the water, experience leisurely lunch or maybe have dinner somewhere out of town.

If you are in the mood for Pizza and Modern Australia, Thong and Sarong at Coolum Beach Hotel is a great place to start. The atmosphere is relaxing so you can enjoy your meal without being distracted by too much noise. They also have a large playground nearby where your kids can amuse themselves with DVD’s, car rides, Playstations and such. Their menu includes Chicken, pizza and pasta, seafood and steak, served with a full range of vegetables and some interesting sauces.

However, if you prefer Mediterranean Cuisine, Harvest is the choice for you. Harvest is situated in on the David Low Way just round the corner from Elizabeth street in the heart of the beachfront esplanade. The Barramundi and Eye fillet dishes get rave reviews despite their simplicity. They offer fresh food and fast service.

Tickle your taste buds at a great little Thai restaurant called Thai Spice. This is a family owned restaurant that has been serving Thai food for over 6 years now. There is a fantastic range of meat dishes as well as seafood as fresh as you will find anywhere and a good selection for vegetarians. The prices seem extremely good value as there are some dishes at $6.50 with lunch specials running at $8.90, the Beef in Oyster sauce and the Chicken pad thai go down very well with locals and tourists. Not a bad option either for take away if you have dining facilities in your holiday apartment.

A great alternative is a beachfornt restaurant called Sandbar. It is located in the Coolum Beach Surf Club on David Low Way. The best view in town from the surf club’s indoor and outdoor first floor panaoramic dining areas and the food which is best described as modern australian is generally very good. The surf club is the perfect place for a cool beer whilst watching the surf roll in.

Most of the facilities that have been created by people around the world have been created for use by normal human beings. These have been great inventions. There have been many people who have caused a lot of up gradations on these inventions. But they have all created the products and facilities keeping in mind the common people. Finding place for disabled accommodation for someone on a holiday is challenging.

There are people who don’t have all the physical features of ordinary human beings. Some people won’t have their legs or they may have the legs but they won’t be working properly.

Then there are also people who don’t have very useful arms. The former are the people who suffer the most. They suffer more because they are not able to move on their own. Mobility becomes a problem in their case.

Even after the invention of the wheel chairs disabled people are not able to move with a lot of freedom when the disabled travel. They always require a person to place them on the chair and remove the person from the chair. It is quite difficult for these people even now.

These days there are a number of holiday homes and villas which have been designed to allow these disabled people to use them with ease. The field of construction and accommodation has paid greater interest in the needs of these disabled people and has created facilities friendly for these people.

These villas also have Jacuzzi which is user friendly for disabled person. It is designed in such a way. The villa also has a bed that can be adjusted electronically. Then there is the shower with propelled wheel chair. Then there are also grips of high quality on the bars of the bathroom.

The transportation provided by these cottages is also great. They use vehicles that are fit for use by the disabled people. They use specially designed vehicles for transportation of these disable people in the cottage. The cottages have a number of people who take good care of disabled people residing in it.

The word “vacation” may stir up thoughts of beach resorts and tropical weather in your mind. But what about the great outdoors and wrangling bulls and horseback riding? No, it’s not be the most conventional idea you’ve thought of, or it may not have ever crossed your mind in the first place. Who do you know these days that suggests you to spend your three-day weekend on a ranch instead on a beach? The more adventurous person would tell you to try something new like horseshoe tossing or riding through fields. Dude ranches across the U.S. are one of the best kept secrets in vacation spots. If you are looking for a different kind of adventure, they may become your destination.

Any hesitations you may have about going to a ranch should be discarded once and for all. Ranches are a great place for a mini-escape to clear the head. The activities are so abundant and the food so hearty, it is an especially great getaway for a family or even a romantic couple looking to try something new. Ranches may be a dream come true for someone who loved Westerns as a kid. It can be wildly entertaining for children needing more exposure to the great outdoors. These ranches give people a chance to experience the West as it once was. With such broad hospitality and a wide variety of energizing activities, a trip to one of these off the road ranches can do wonders.

Tracking down a ranch to visit is the least of the trouble you have to go through. Locations sprout up all over the US, everywhere from wide plains in California to Montana dude ranches. But don’t think that you’re condemning yourself to a boring weekend on a ranch. The authenticity of the ranches, right down to the howdy accents, shows how dedicated the staff really is, which makes the experience all the more rewarding.

So the next time you have a weekend that is actually free, consider spending it at a dude ranch. You may find out that it was just what you needed.

In London, the capital city of England, there is something for everyone to make their visit a memorable one. London is home to over 300 museums and 200 galleries. There is always some sort of event taking place here.

It’s easy to fly in to London from virtually anywhere, as there are four major international airports here. You can choose between several transportation options after landing in London. The best way to get around London is by using the extensive public transport system. London has hundreds of things to do and a multitude of great places to visit. Below are three of the best things to see and do when visiting London.

Buckingham Palace - Buckingham Palace is one of England’s most famous palaces and is the official home of Queen Elizabeth II. If you are visiting London in summer you can visit the State Rooms as they are open to the public then. Buckingham Palace was acquired by King George III for Queen Charlotte, and has a long and colourful history.

The historic house was converted into a palace by George IV. In 1837, Queen Victoria was the first monarch to reside in Buckingham Palace. During ceremonial occasions, the Royal family still use the State Rooms to receive and entertain guests. Some of the finest English and French furniture in the world can be found in the lavishly decorated rooms. The walls are adorned with paintings by Rubens, Rembrandt, Vermeer and Poussin. Annual exhibitions and regular tours also take place in the 29-acre gardens. You have to have this on your itinerary for a London holiday.

The British Museum - The British Museum is world renowned for its collection of objects exploring the history and culture of man. This impressive museum is home to over seven million objects. Founded in 1753, the displays range from prehistoric to modern. Famous pieces include the Portland Vase, the Parthenon Sculptures and the Rosetta Stone.

It has a world renowned Egyptian collection of mummies and there is a special tomb like room dedicated to the life of the wealthy Egyptian, Negamun. The museum also has areas dedicated to Medieval Europe, Watches and Clocks, and the Percival David Collection of Chinese Art. The central hub of the museum is the glass domed Great Court. It is the largest covered public square in Europe and was designed by Lord Norman Foster. You would not see everything inside if you spent days trying.

The London Eye - The modern icon that is the London Eye - also called the Millennium Wheel - is a must see when visiting London. “Boarding a flight” on the London Eye will give you an entirely different perspective on this amazing city. Standing at an impressive 135 metres tall, this awesome riverside wheel is a famous part of London’s modern skyline. Through the glass pods you get a 360-degree view of the city. It’s possible on a clear day to see twenty-five miles all around.

You will get a bird’s eye view of all of the attractions London has to offer, including Canary Wharf, Big Ben, Windsor Castle and the Houses of Parliament. It takes about thirty minutes for it to make one complete revolution. This is a very popular attraction and you can expect long queues for booking tickets and waiting to board the flight. You can save time by booking online. Depending on your needs, you can find a variety of packages on offer. It’s possible to upgrade to Fast track which lets you check-in 15 minutes prior. If the fancy takes you it’s possible to have a glass of champagne or a personal London guide. This is the best and only way to get a true panoramic view of the city.

There is just so much to do here that you may want to return often. You can easily get around this vast historic city by taxi cab if you have the budget! There are both licensed and unlicensed minicabs operating in London. London - like New York - is famous for its taxis, except for that these ones are black and are called Hackney cabs. You should stick to using these licensed taxis rather than the often less reliable “minicabs”.

You can hire a car at all of London’s airport locations if you prefer this option to getting you around. At both these airports you will find excellent motorist facilities including self-drive car hire or chauffeur driven vehicles for hire.

Any hired car rental agreement should be read thoroughly so that you know what excesses and such you will have to pay in the event of an accident. Other specialist insurance products such as gap insurance, car warranties and breakdown insurance will generally be taken care of by the hire car company so you do not need to worry about these things. Make yourself aware of the details of breakdown cover and who to call if it happens, be sure that you have 24-hour cover in place! Additional insurance products may be offered - such as windscreen insurance or key insurance - to give you added peace of mind but which will undoubtedly cost you more. Ensure that you are aware of what it is you are signing! Sticking with a car hire company you know - such as Hertz, Budget or Avis - may often be your best bet.

You may prefer to use the excellent public transport system instead of hiring a car to get you to your hotel or bed and breakfast (B&B). Rail links from London to other cities and towns around the country are frequent - including to the cosmopolitan seaside resort of Brighton which is also a popular tourist location and holiday resort.

London is a beautiful place to visit no matter the time of year. You will always find something exciting to do whether it is seeing the sights during the day or hitting all of the hot London clubs at night. As the famous Samuel Johnson quotation goes:

“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”.

This short city review was brought to you by London’s’ Most Popular Online GAP Insurance and Car Warranty Supplier the Click4Group.

Those going on long haul travels should pay close attention to their health, especially if travelling to such high-risk destinations as Africa. You will need to be thinking about your health requirements weeks before you travel.

The first place to start is by researching your destination. What injections are required by law for entry into the country (e.g. yellow fever) and what injections are highly recommended? Your GP will be able to help. Common vaccinations are: diptheria, polio, cholera, hepatitis A and hepatitis B. If you have had vaccinations for some of these diseases before you may still be protected or may be able to get a booster that will top you up for years to come.

Depending on your destination you may also need antimalarials. Malaria tablets should be taken one to two weeks before departure to build up some protection and to check there’s no adverse side effects. Depending on which antimalarials you are prescribed, side effects can range from extra sun sensitivity to hallucinations. You will still need to take other preventative measures against mosquito bites as antimalarials cannot prevent infection with malaria – what theydo is inhibit the parasite’s development.

If you are going to be coming into frequent close contact with animals on your travels you may also need protection against rabies but this isn’t standard practice for most travellers.

Obviously you will need to make sure you have enough personal medication and a first aid kit that suits the type of trip you are going on. Take more medication than you think you will need in case you are delayed in your destination country. An emergency first aid kit with syringes will be useful for poorer countries and these medical consumables can be easily bought from a medical equipment supplier. An easy way to find a selection of suppliers to choose from would be to do an internet search for ‘medical supplies UK’ or to check out your local pharmacy or outdoor supplies shop.

You must make sure that you have good health insurance – trying to make savings here is not advisable. It would be awful to be stranded in a foreign country with increasing medical bills because you didn’t bother with insurance or thought you could get away with not taking it out. Repatriation can cost vast sums of money and you need to be covered. For travel within Europe, a European Health Insurance Card (available from the Post Office amongst other places) entitles you to free or reduced cost medical treatment.

Air travel may also cause you problems such as dehydration and DVT. Deep vein thrombosis isn’t very common but can be lethal. Make sure you drink plenty of water on your flight, don’t drink too much coffee or alcohol, keep your skin moisturised and keep your body as active as possible with walking up and down the cabin or moving your feet about. It is also a good idea to purchase special flight socks that help prevent the blood in your legs pooling, giving you some protection against DVT.

On arrival at your destination, follow good hygiene practices and don’t take silly risks. ‘Boil it, cook it, peel it or forget it’ is a motto that will see you through in areas of poor sanitation. Make sure your hot food is properly hot and that you stay away from ice cubes if you are not sure if the water they have been made from is safe. Only wash food in boiled or sterilised water and don’t use water from the tap to drink or brush your teeth. Ensure bottled water served to you is opened in your presence.

If you suffer from an upset stomach it may not be that you have caught anything nasty but that your body is not used to the new food and different water.

If you feel really ill then make sure you get medical advice as soon as possible.

The popular holiday destination of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, is not always considered for its culinary achievements, but it does in fact offer a tasty and diverse menu thanks to an eclectic mix of cultural influences Holidaymakers visiting the isle will find authentic Canary Island flavours mixed with international cuisine, catering for all types of tourist Whether seeking something familiar or a true taste of the island, delicious dishes are always served up at the independent restaurants and hotels in Tenerife. Here’s a sampe of what’s on offer:

Meat

Meat, including pork, beef, chicken, or rabbit, is often slow-cooked in liquid and served as a sauce or stew. Other popular dishes includes chopped, marinated and spiced pork, which is called ‘fiesta meat’, often served with both potatoes and sweet potatoes as a side dish.

Vegetarian options

Fresh vegetables are a common theme for many island diets as they are more practical and cost effective than importing food from the mainland. Vegetable stews made with tomatoes, potatoes, maize, onions and peppers are popular choices. Gofio – a cereal paste prepared with grains such as maize, toasted wheat, or barley – is frequently served with stew.

Island specialities

A specialty of Tenerife is ‘mojo’ sauce, which is often served with fresh seafood, such as sardines, octopus, shellfish, boiled vieja (sea bream), tuna, and jareas and tollos (a local, salted fish). It is also particularly delicious served over small potatoes. The sauce combines oil, vinegar, red pepper sauce and a variety of spices like coriander, cumin, pepper, parsley and garlic.

Meanwhile, adventurous taste buds should sample the traditional moles eggs dish, made with a sweet syrup made for sugar and egg yolk. Other must-try items include ‘tollos’ (dried and seasoned shark strips), fried chorizo, and sweet black pudding.

Drinks

The many vineyards in Tenerife are in a prime position to offer up the perfect accompaniment to an evening meal. Visitors to the island can enjoy a day wine tasting, visiting historical sites and museums, shopping, and marvelling at the beautiful landscape and ocean views before settling down to a mouthwatering evening meal complete with a nice glass of ‘vino’.

There are a number of ways to make the most of Tenerife cuisine. The all inclusive options offered by many Tenerife hotels gives guests the chance to sample a variety of different dishes at no extra cost. This is a great option for those on a budget and the standard of food on offer is generally very high - as is the case with most Canaries hotels right across the archipelago. If the hotel menu is limited, however, then bed & breakfast is the way forward. This allows visitors to the island to test out some of the many quaint little eateries and popular restaurants and to get a full feel for the island’s local flavours.

If you are heading out on recession beating family holidays to any of the Balearics this year, try to make sure you get yourself over to one of these awesome waterparks. There is nothing better than hitting some of the best water featured attractions in the blazing sun and it has to be said it is the most fun way to cool down in the heat.

Aqualand - Magaluf, Mallorca
This park is huge. With well over 15 slides and many other attractions, if you’re visiting Majorca and are in the west of the island you need to visit this park. From unique slides like the boomerang, black hole and the tornado to the super slaloms and the 8 lane ‘multi-pistas’ there is an attraction for all. They even have a wave pool that can create 1m high waves, also there is a Congo river ride for the people that just want to relax. For the younger children there is the mini park catering in smaller versions of some of the grown up slides

Hidropark - Alcudia, Mallorca
If you are not located in the west of the island, over in the east you have the Hidropark in Alcudia.Hidropark is smaller than Aqualand but not short of slides. You really should try the kamikaze although its not one for the faint hearted. This park is miniscule in comparison to Aqualand i’d reccoment going to aqualand due to the sheer size of it.

Aguamar - Playa den Bossa, Ibiza

The White Isle has two worthy waterparks the first, and larger of the two is the Aguamar located just 15 minute bus drive from Ibiza town. The Aguamar has many slides all will depend how daring you are feeling in your quest to cool down. There are around seven types of slides as well as your relaxing rubber ring style slides. There is also one that other people describe as the high and fast one. This slide is definitely one for the daring.

Agualandia – Talamanca, Ibiza
Near to the family oriented resort of Talamanca lies Aqualandia.Aqualandia is a little smaller than the Aguamar park but caters more for children as it has many more children’s slides an benefits from sheltered areas. Aqualandia has the favoured multiple lane slides and twisty inflatable slides. This is the most family friendly waterpark in Ibiza.

Aquacenter - Los Delfines, Menorca

Family friendly Aquacenter in Los Delfines has many attractions for the whole family to get splashing. The best water rides in this park are the Giant Toboggan and the Black Hole. They also have t he rides you expect to see in all water parks with attractions such as your multi lane slides for the whole family to race to the finish. For the adults there is also a Jacuzzi area.

Aquarock – Cala’n Bosch, Menorca
The main attraction in Aquarocks is their kamikaze slide. For the more adventurous slider in you, this slide will pummel you into the water at a cracking rate. As with most of the parks listed here this too caters for your family with a dedicated children’s area with smaller versions of the adult slides for maximum family fun. For the water shy family members there is always the go karts to keep you occupied.
