Experience the Canary Island of Lanzarote

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Lanzarote is a popular holiday island, located in the Canaries.  Which are the seven strong Spanish owned island group situated off the coast of West Africa.  On the same line of longitude as parts of Mexico and the Bahamas.  Enabling visitors to enjoy great weather whatever the time of the year. This clement climate has helped to establish the Canaries as one of the most visited destinations in Spain.  And during the course of 2008 alone over 1.5 million foreign tourists enjoyed holidays in Lanzarote – the fourth largest and most easterly island in the group.

So lets find out why family holidays in Lanzarote remain so popular and choosing one of the villas in Lanzarote that the island has to offer is fast becoming the popular holiday accommodation  choice amongst travellers.

Lanzarote is very different from the other islands in the Canaries.  As they are all greener and more lush, whilst Lanzarote is dry and barren.  Which can be attributed to the fact that Lanzarote experiences very little in the way of rainfall and has a very arid terrain created by volcanic eruptions over 250 years ago.

Today this region of the island occupies about a quarter of Lanzarote´s total land mass.  And is a hugely popular visitor attraction, known locally as The Fire Mountains or Timanfaya.  Where visitors can view a lunar like landscape that has served as a backdrop for a number of science fiction films and most recently the latest release from Spanish director Pedro Almodovar, Broken Embraces.  Which stars Penelope Cruz and which was shot on location around the island.

There are plenty of places to stay on the island.  With visitors able to choose from a large selection of Lanzarote villas, hotels and apartments.  The bulk of which are located in the main resorts of Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.  Whilst rural tourism has also started to grow in popularity over the last few years.

There are over ninety beaches for visitors to explore.  Many of these are man made in the resorts – using sand imported from the Sahara.  So tourists should head for coastal villages such as Famara and Arrieta to experience the best all natural stretches of sand on the island.

Many first time visitors are surprised by the wide range of cultural attractions on offer too.  After all isn’t this supposed to be Lanzagrotty?  There’s an abundance of fascinating museums, such as the Emigration Museum which charts what happened to islanders after the volcanic eruptions as they fled to create new lives abroad.  A wealth of historic towns such as Teguise – the island capital until 1852.  And the various works of the local artist Cesar Manrique – who had a huge influence on the development of tourism on Lanzarote.

Mutiny on the Bounty was the start of Tahiti holidays

Tahiti holiday

When the mutineers of the Bounty expelled their captain, they had no idea their actions would lead to the beginning of Tahiti holidays. The region is now famous having been featured in Hollywood films.

Tahiti is now one of the preeminent destinations in the South Pacific.

After a journey to Tahiti, it’s no wonder why it is featured in Hollywood films as it has gorgeous scenery.

The focus now though is luxury – not mutiny

A recent movie,”Couples Retreat”, has led to travel firms producing a spate of package holidays centred on the lavish resort where the picture was filmed.

The nice thing about Tahiti accommodation is the lack of towering apartments which is sadly a characteristic of fashionable tourist spots such as the Gold Coast in Australia.

One popular feature are the transparent floors in the over-water bungalows where visitors can relax and watch the fish enjoying life.

There is more to a Tahiti holiday than a cheap novel and a dip in the hotel pool.

Package holidays in Tahiti can include 4WD adventures, art lessons, cooking, fishing and dive excursions.

The well-known French impressionist painter, Paul Gauguin (died 1903) spent the last few years of his life in Tahiti.

It’s perhaps his lasting influence which today sees many Tahiti holidaymakers crouching at easels with canvas and pastels trying to capture the beauty of the islands.

His influence is still seen today as many holidaymakers enjoy painting the Tahiti landscape.

Guests staying at Le Meridien Tahiti can enjoy art lessons by local artists. The resort has daily classes.

Guests can also learn how to cook, with classes run by the executive chef.

Painting and food is also found in other places in Tahiti.

The Papeete markets are a hit with visitors which feature woven bags, massage oils, fresh fish, vegetables and of course, the well-known black pearl.

Pearl farms can be found throughout Tahiti.

The process is started by prying open an oyster ever so slightly to place the “nucleus”.

Oyster meat is also inserted, depending on its colour.

The pearl takes two years to transform into its final form and its colour varies from the darkest black to pink, bronze, green and blue.

The type of pearl you buy will without doubt be determined by your budget as prices vary wildly depending on the size, quality and colour.

It takes eight hours to fly to Tahiti from eastern Australia. This is longer than other popular South Pacific destinations like New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji.

It is for this reason that Tahiti can be overlooked by South Pacific holiday promoters.

As the focus is on closer destinations, those looking a Tahiti holiday need to do some research to make sure they find everything on offer.

Australians looking for Tahiti holidays should first visit Travel Monitor. This is an independent website that presents all the current packages in the one place which saves travellers a lot of time visiting a multide of websites. The information is constantly updated to ensure deals are accurate and current.

Finding Wonderful Pleasure In Las Vegas Luxor

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Las Vegas Luxor is both a hotel and casino and a focal point of attraction in the Sin City. The picture will always seem familiar, whether from magazines, documentaries or touristic ads, because we are talking about one of the world’s most famous spots. In its place, there used to be the Pyramid House and it is today one of the best-known themed resorts. The name comes from the city of Luxor, an ancient Egyptian town in the Valley of the Kings.

Built in 1991, Las Vegas Luxor underwent renovation in 2007. It contains more than four thousand rooms for tourists, and its public areas have also been renovated to create more adult-appealing lounges, clubs and restaurants. In the same year of the renovation, one of the pyramid’s black surfaced facades advertised for Absolut Vodka but last year, in 2008, the ad was taken off. Las Vegas Luxor was initially more Egypt-oriented in terms of thematic aspect before the renovation two years ago. A river surrounded the casino and tourists where given a boat trip of the place.

Some guests even complained that this mini-tour took too long, which is probably one reason for the removal of this pseudo-attraction. Some superstitious voices even claimed that the river was haunted by the ghosts of two workers who had lost their lives working on the casino.

There was a theater and a club within the older Las Vegas Luxor. Nowadays things are a little different. They have refurnished the rooms, they have replaced two great restaurants with CatHouse, they have again replaced the nightclub that was most popular in Vegas with another, part of the branch of LAX; fortunately, you can still find the Las Vegas Luxor Steakhouse only under a different name as well as the IMAX theater which has been renovated to offer even greater performance shows.

Las Vegas Luxor is very well-known because of its design, the work of Veldon Simpson. Las Vegas Luxor is a thirty-story pyramid of black glass with a truly impressive look. An imitation of the Sphinx of Giza dominates the entrance, as it is placed right above the portico. Another peculiarity of the building is the tower of light directed towards the skin that has the reputation of being one of the most powerful of such beams worldwide.

What Do You Get from a Private Helicopter?

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

You’ll know the disadvantage of travelling by air if your business often takes you out of the office and onto the next business meeting miles and miles away. Good thing there is an alternative, although you many not have previously considered it before, you’ll soon see the benefits that come with a private charter helicopter. A charter helicopter used to exist only in the world of the rich and the famous, but this doesn’t mean that those who can afford such service can’t enjoy the benefits of hiring a charter helicopter. In fact, there are a lot of companies offering airplanes and helicopters for hire for no-stress, no-queues and no-delays travelling.

1. Flexibility and Faster Service. Chartering a private helicopter is a smarter way and the best possible alternative to commercial flights. Time is money and for a business executive, you must utilize every minute for greater productivity. With a private flight, you’ll be able to schedule a flight exactly when you need it, and you can thrust aside the time you would spend in checking in an hour or two before you can fly. The flexibility and availability of private helicopter charter are tailored to suit your own needs. You would soon realize that the cost associated with a private helicopter is actually far less than you might think, considering the greater productivity and peace of mind you will achieve as a result.

2. Security and Accessibility. With a charter helicopter, you have access to thousands of private helispots; this allows take-off and landing as close as possible to your chosen destination. Since you spend less time on the road, you can avoid the hassle and stres of traffic jams. Moreover, with the strict security checks now required on all flights, you might have to wait long lines to pass through security. You can avoid the stress of being part of a big crowd since the security process is much faster with a private helicopter. Again, this saves time.

3. Competitive Pricing and Economical. It’s not only the rich and famous who use private charter helicopters. In the corporate world, hiring a private helicopter is a very cost-effective way of travelling; quicker journey means more valuabe working hours are not lost and overnight stays can be reduced. Furthermore, chartering a private helicopter can be surprisingly economical with group charters. You can have the helicopter on standby, ready to fly you back at any time you want. This in turn saves time and money in the form of hotel bills. Plus, the persoanl services are fitted to your own personal tastes and choice.

The advantages of hiring a helicopter service are obvious. People have realized that a private helicopter is a more efficient, more convenient and increasingly within your means way of flying. Not to mention, chartering a private helicopter is a great gift to surprise someone. There’s all the more reason to hire a  Los Angeles helicopter charter – you can make a special occasion even more special and unforgettable.

Fun Things To Do In Las Vegas

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Las Vegas can be an example of a remote desert converted in the world’s most fun and frolic place and be known as the Gambling Capital of the world. The place is full of bright neon lights in different colours and designes, there is not a single spot of darkness anywhere. It is magical and mesmerizes the first time visitors. You will be like Alice in Wonderland there.

Any hotel you check in will offer you the opportunity to try your hand at gambling. Remember to get a good hotel for you to relax and have full energy. The slot machines are an integral part of a hotel’s décor.  These slot machines will beckon you surely and you will find it irresistible to keep yourself away from it. You are bound to try you hand at it. Some get lucky and really do win handsomely. You should keep in mind that the changes of losing are far greater than the winning ones, specially when you have not been near one earlier.

Having lost some money in the slot machine you would surely look for a diversion. In that case you just drop in to the Grand Hotel where the Splash show is staged. You will be amazed to see men and women perform in the water with such dexterity and grace. It will linger in your mind for a very long time making you wonder at how they had performed so beautifully. And you will begin to wish that you too could emulate them.

You can also visit the Treasure Island to see how a shop sinks. It will remind you of your school days when you had the opportunity to read the famous story by that name.

Las Vegas being a hot tourist spot; there are numerous good hotels in USA all over. All fancy and highly sophisticated, everything to enchant the visitor. Each one has its own specialty. Some will cater to your taste buds so much that you may forget the exquisite meals that you had at home. And the best thing at some of the place is that you will be able to witness the chef cook your meal right in front of you; you can very well see what is being cooked. Another aspect of the hotels here is that the waiters are outright helpful. They are ready to help you in any way you want and even ready to pamper you all the way.

The atmosphere in Las Vegas is very open. People make up with each other very casually and easily. But you should be very careful. You have to be very careful before you mix. The place is not safe for a lone lady. Street guy are lurking allover the place, hunting for innocent women. It is very hard to distinguish the street guy from the gentlemen; since they are too sophisticated for you to tell them apart. This is why Las Vegas is also referred to as the City of Sin.

Therefore if you want to go the Las Vegas and want to avoid the unpleasant; then concentrate on enjoying the ambiance, entertainment and the food and have a great time.

Cebu boasts a rich history

But this is not only the things that make the province unique. The province of Cebu has a long history as well, and this is considered as one of the oldest provinces in the country. In fact, the history of the province goes way beyond 400 years ago and this started when the island was made as a province when the colonization of the Spaniards was just starting. And even before the arrival of the Spaniards, the province of Cebu was already active in its trade with neighboring provinces and islands. The island was in fact known as the center of trade in Southern Philippines as it dealt with the traders from many countries like China, Malaysia, Japan, India, Burma and other parts of the continent. Philippine Tourism as the Country’s Comparative Advantage

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Philippines tourism can be considered as the country’s comparative advantage and this is the reason why the government puts great effort in promoting the tourism industry. The country is archipelagic and located in the Pacific Ocean and this is one reason why the tourism is a hit in the country.

The Philippines has been blessed with beautiful natural resources made more appealing by its unique culture which in turn was influenced by many foreign cultures. Spain, Latin America and the United States have all contributed in its little ways to help make the Filipino culture what it is right now.

The tourism in the country is booming thanks to its natural resources scattered in all parts of the country and also to its unique Filipino identity. The tourism in the Philippines began stepping up in the 1970s and this lasted until the mid 1980s. After that time, tourist arrivals in the country started to slow down. An indicator that the country’s tourism business is on the move down is on the average stay each of the tourist in the country. By 1988, the average stay of a tourist in the country is 8.9 days. This figure is significantly lower than the registered 12.6 days in previous years. But this scenario for the country didn’t last since by 1990s, the sector once again peaked with around 1.2 million tourist arrivals for 1992. This jolt in the arrival of visitor in the country has gave the Department of Tourism a more optimistic outlook and allowed for the Department to say that they anticipate more tourist arrivals in the future.

By the year 2000, the tourist arrivals in the Philippines totaled 2.2 million and this was pushed to 2,838,000 by 2003. The Philippine archipelago is known for many sights, sounds and festivals and these are some of the reasons why the tourism industry in the country is a hit.

From Metropolitan Manila to as far as the Northern provinces to the southern provinces of the country, there will always be a tourist spot that travelers and tourists will love.

. Metropolitan Manila. Intramuros in Manila and Makati City are known tourist draws. The Intramuros in Manila is called the ‘walled city of Manila’. This was constructed in the 1500s and originally the whole of Manila was restrained within the areas of the walled city. But since the city has been growing exponentially, a number of buildings have been built outside the city. Right now, Intramuros is being visited due to its museums, churches and the old fort. Manila on the other hand is known for its vibrant night life. A nightlife and party scene that can rival those found in other Asian capitals. Other than Manila, Boracay and Cebu are also considered as party hotspots in the country. Makati is simply Manila in a modern way. Most modern facilities can be seen here- from shopping malls to major hotels and business centers.

. Aklan. This is one province in the Visayas region and considered as one of the most visited provinces in the country. Aklan is known for its ‘Ati-Atihan Festival that is hosted in Kalibo.

. Bohol. This province in the Visayas region is known for its ‘Chocolate Hills’. These are limestone hills that look like ‘chocolate hills from afar. The province is also the home of the Philippine Tarsier, which is considered as one of the smallest primates in the world.

. Northern Philippines. The Northern Philippines is famous also because of its many tourist spots. One popular destination is Mt Pinatubo known for its massive eruption that happened in 1991. The Hundred Islands is another site worth checking. The Banaue Rice Terraces are popular for its beauty too- rice terraces that are engraved from the mountainside. This is a UNESCO world heritage site. A visit to the country, northern provinces will not be whole without checking the ‘Hanging Coffins’ of Sagada.

. Taal Volcano in Laguna is worth checking too, and this is considered as one of the smallest volcano in the world.

. Palawan. This is a province and an island located in the South China Sea and known for its beaches.

. Boracay. And talking about beaches, Boracay is one destination worth visiting.

There are a number of great tourist spots in the country and since the country is archipelagic in nature, some of the adventure that can be experienced by the tourists will be mostly water-based. Philippine tourism activities and festivals are often concentrated on some of the best surfing and diving sites in the country.
