A Destination Worth Discovering

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, must be one of the least visited and most misrepresented cities of South America. It’s capital Asuncion boasts a working port which is frequented by barges, small container boats and ferries. Destination guides for Asuncion are sometimes hard to get.  Even more difficult to find are destination guides for handicapped travel.

The location where Asuncion is situated today was most likely visited by the Spanish conqueror Juan de Ayolas n the 16th century. He disappeared without a trace and Juan de Salazar was sent to look for him. In August 1537 the latter stopped at a bay in the left bank of the Paraguay river and decided to establish fort there. He named it “Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion” (Our Lady of the Assumption).

A city soon began to take shape around the fort. From here many explorer in turn left to establish a number of other cities. These include Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina and Santa Cruz de Sierra in Bolivia. Asuncion is thus one of the oldest cities in South America and one that can rightly claim to be the “mother of cities”.

Asuncion is located next to the river Paraguay. The old part of the city, including the harbor, looks out over the Bay of Asuncion. A natural bay permits small vessels to come and go to their various destinations, one of which is Brazil.

It is a crumbling, atmospheric old city. When you walk down the main street (called Palma) you will meet pavement vendors selling the famous Nanduti embroidered lace, you will hear the sounds of harp music coming from various music stores and you will be approached by hawkers selling chipa – a delightful and very typical Paraguayan bread made with manioc or corn flour.

If you stay at the characterful old Hotel Armele, you will be able to watch the sun go down over the Bay of Asuncion and the Chaco stretching far, far away into the distance.

At night the city comes alive. South Americans love music and there are a large number of locales where you can listen to live bands playing everything from traditional Paraguayan music to rock. The city has a wide variety of restaurants. While buffet restaurants are very popular, especially around lunchtime, there are a diversity of restaurants available to suit every culinary taste.

Make your way to the east of the town and you will be totally astounded at it’s modern buildings and opulent Villas. The two main arterials namely; Avenida Espana and Avenida Mariscal Lopez connect to this area which is known as Villa Morra. Here you’ll find glitzy shopping malls and upmarket coffee shops and restaurants. If it’s culinary delights you are after, then you need not look any further than Asuncion. The locals are excellent chefs and their food is prepared in such varieties that it’s truly a feast for the eye. You can also catch a movie at many of their multi-screen cinemas. If it’s orchestral music or a ballet you are after then the Paraguayan National Bank Theater offers concerts on a regular basis.

The city has a large number of hotels to suit all pockets. Budget hotels cluster around Plaza Uruguay, while near Plaza de los Heroes there are a number of four- and five star hotels.

Destination guides for Asuncion are difficult to find. We recommend that you print this page and keep it for reference purposes.

Discover the Top Ten Travel Destinations of the World

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Statistically speaking, lots of natural corners and epitomes of civilization deserve a place among top ten travel destinations. Yet, there is seldom a match between what people dream for a vacation and what they actually buy in terms of package. For example, Hawaii is what you long for, but as it may be out of your reach, you’ll just stick to a budget and choose the vacation resort accordingly. Top ten travel destinations often combine a rich and exotic natural setting with a heavy historic and cultural charge.

Top ten travel destinations are created based on the impressions of people who have actually visited certain places. Egypt, Tasmania in Australia, Bangkok in Cambodia, Sardinia in the South of Italy, Monaco, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Paris or Damascus are just a few examples of favorite travel destinations. The criteria of appreciation differ from case to case, but tourists would rather want to see something memorable rather than just sit on a beach and relax. The key to defining top ten travel destinations is to identify the greatest local attractions that come to fascinate visitors.

You can find plenty of travel related web sites and very many top ten travel destinations. The preponderance goes for the parts of the world that can provide cheap prices, great food and accommodation, lots of entertainment options and rich cultural traditions. This is why South Asia appeals to tourists, and the same holds true for the Pyramids in Egypt or the great Ummayad Mosque of Damascus. In fact, there is something noteworthy of visiting in every country.

Actually, travel agents usually provide touristic packages that can be considered affordable for the average consumer. Consider for instance the way an average American will choose a winter travel destination. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to spend a week in Aspen than one in Europe, skiing in the Austrian Alps? Top ten travel destinations thus remain limited by the budget, because not everybody can afford to travel to exotic, far-away places.

If you get the chance of going to some very special destination, enjoy every minute you spend there. There are couples and families who spend lifetime savings on exotic vacations or fancy cruises. For such a situation, this unique chance becomes the best of all top travel destinations.

Are your family loves traveling and always looks forward the next opportunity to travel? Well, i’m sure that having sleeping bag could be the first thought that cross in your mind. You can check out the review about these sleeping bags especially for your childrens by visiting particular website on childrens sleeping bags and you can also read the review about other kinds of sleeping bags on kelty sleeping bags sites. Checking Out How To Get Your Pass Port Quick

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

There are instances where unforeseen circumstances force you to travel out of the country immediately. With routine passport processing times taking four to six weeks, the waiting period may simply be too lengthy. If you want to know how to get a United States passport fast, we’ll show you how in the following paragraphs.

One instance where you can get a pass port quickly is during family emergencies that would require you to go to another country where a US passport is required within 48 hours. What you need to do is to apply for an emergency passport by calling the National Passport Information Agency. They will schedule an appointment between you and the passport agency nearest you. Because of its nature, you may call the National Passport Information Agency at any time of the day, every day.

Because of the nature of what it does, you may contact the NPIA at any time of the day to schedule an appointment. However, when you are unable to get an appointment with the passport agency, stay on the line so you can be rerouted to a customer service representative (CSR). The CSR will then provide you with other options so you can immediately get an emergency passport.

The normal situation, however, does not require the need for an emergency passport, yet there is a need to travel within the next four weeks. Since the routine passport application may not be able to process your passport on time, you’ll need to get an expedited passport instead. This type of passport is often recommended to those who need to travel in ten weeks or less.

Why would you need to get an expedited passport? You would need this type of passport application if you need to travel in less than two weeks. You would also need this if you need to apply for a foreign visa within four weeks. So, if you want it quick, the expedited passport is what you need.

Now let’s talk about how you can get your passport application expedited. You can send your passport application through the mail; however, there are a few things you need to remember before doing this. First, make sure that you use an envelope that won’t get damaged easily. Also, make sure you write, “EXPEDITED” outside of the envelope. Then finally, ensure that you are able to track the mail to check that it’s received by the addressee.

Keep in mind that getting an expedited passport service requires an additional fee on top of the regular processing fees. It can be hefty for some, but if you’re after speed and convenience, it’s well worth the money. Consult with your nearest passport agency regarding the fees you need to pay.

Want to get a USA passport fast? The options that we have shown you above will help you to do that. For emergency situations, an emergency passport is what you need. For times when you need to leave in two to four weeks, there’s the expedited passport.

Want to find a celebrity on holiday, then try one of these!

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Some people want to feel like a celebrity, even if it is for a couple of days, so why not give one of these holidays a go! Celebrities enjoy holidays just like us “Normy’s” do, and they even enjoy a holiday that we even embark on, although they do enjoy a lot of luxury. So do you want to know where the celebrities go, then you could book a holiday and chances are, you may bump into your role model!

Where can we go to find these places, or at least whereabouts are they? The Caribbean is a great place for us to first start looking, especially in St Lucia! St Lucia is probably the most beautiful of all the islands. This is not for the clubbing or partying celebrity, this is for those that enjoy a spa or massage. Amy Winehouse, here is a perfect example of a celebrity that you could possibly meet on holiday. What was great for tourists and prospective tourists, is that she stayed around for a few months, and was happy to say hello to tourists. She made sure she was pleasant to tourists and also she even had a little fun herself.

So now from St Lucia we head East to the island of Barbados. Barbados is a favourite holiday location of one of the princes of the British sovereignty, Prince Harry quite enjoys a vacation here. Barbados is visited by many celebrities because of it’s lively nightlife and sunny surroundings. This party island “Barbados” gives everybody the chance to go out on the St Lawrence mile strip, for as long as you want!

The next location is probably the most expensive and the highest in quality. This also seems to be the Honeymoon locations for the stars as well. People like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes headed here for two weeks after they got married, and Beyonce and Jay Z came here for their honeymoon. Going for a nice walk along the beach and taking a trip to the spa hotel, this is what these holidays are for.

Which of these holidays best suits you, and who would you like to meet, would you fancy Maldives holidays with the stars or St Lucia holidays, maybe even Barbados holidays are more for you!

China is officially atheist

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

China is usually left out of consultations of early civilization which is a mistake since it was one of the first.  If you’re taking a visit to China, here is some background information your should know.

A top level view of China for Travelers

The official name of the country is the People’s Republic of China.  China covers a land mass of over 3.7 million square miles, making it a huge country indeed.  The capital is Beijing.  Other major towns include Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Harbin, and Chengdu.

With such a big land area, you can image that there’s a large range of terrain in the country.  Usually, one can find fields, deltas and hills in the east, while mountains, high plateaus and a huge desert exists in the west.  The climate ranges from tropical in the far south to arctic cold in the far north on the border with Siberia, Russia.

The people of China are referred to as Chinese.  The most recent population study put the total number of Chinese at over 1.3 bn. folk, more than 4 times as many folks as found in the US.  Population growth , however , has decelerated to approximately half a percent annually.  The reason for the slow down is very controversial.  Concerned about commercial strain due to population expansion, China has implemented a policy of allowing for only one child per family with some minor exceptions.  Enforcement of this policy is supposedly done thru fines, but forced terminations are known to happen notwithstanding presidency policy opposing them.  The govt hopes to stabilize the population at not more than 1.6 billion people thru 2050.  The existing infant mortality rate is a surprisingly high 25.5 per 1,000 births.

Ethnicity in China is a hodgepodge issue given its massive size and long history.  Han Chinese is the dominant group, consisting of over 91 % of the populace.  This is a very loose group as shown by various dialects of language in the country.  There are seven major Chinese dialects and masses of localized dialects.  Mandarin is the dominant dialect, spoken by over 70 % of the populace in one sort or another.  That having been said, only sixty % of the Han Chinese can talk it with the remaining forty percent speaking other dialects.  In addition to Mandarin, languages spoken widely included Turkic, Korean, Uygur, Tibetan and Mongolian.  It is typically said that people in one part of China can’t communicate with folk on the other side.

From a religious perspective, China is officially non-believer.  That said, it takes a lax view towards religions that work with the government.  Buddhism is the biggest religion with over 100 million practitioners.  Taoism is the second preferred.  There’s a scattering of Muslim and Christian followers, but nothing major.

As this overview demonstrates, China is giant and unique.  This makes it a great travel destination.

Can A Safari Keep On Top Of A Theme Park

Monday, January 11th, 2010

If you have managed to get over to Disney World you will know for a fact that they have a big ride over in Animal Kingdom known as Kilimanjaro Safari and of course it is supposed to be a bit like the real thing. However does it really compare or is it just a badly made ride that is there for the people who are interested in animals but not going on a safari.

The ride itself is very good as it feels like a real safari so it is very cool if you cannot afford to gety over to Africa for the real thing. It of course features real animals such as lions and elephants that you would expect to see on a real safari. Of course there are some negatives to the ride. One of the big problems is that the person driving you around is a bit cheesy and you can really tell that they are doing this all the time, they do have some really cool information on the animals.

Disney are not trying to make it better but are trying to give you a small glimpse into the real thing. All Disney are tyring to do is giving a bit of a taster when it comes to going on a safari. They are really only out there to show you the parts of Africa that people do not often get to see and are only trying to inspire people to actually go to the place itself.

So why don’t you actually go after a real Safari holiday by taking a going on one of those Kenya Holidays. Of course you could also go on one of those Botswana Holidays or even Zambia Holidays.

It is of course your choice on what you want to do, if you do not fancy the real Africa just go to the theme park!

Maglalatik: Dance that Illustrate the Clash of the Christians and the Moros

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Artistic and lively; these are several of the things that you can use to tag the Philippine dances that characterize its culture. And for sure you will not be disappointed, since the country’s dances are all creative and colorful. An example is the Philippine dance called the ‘Maglalatik’ that is sure to catch the fancy of those looking for a traditional dance that goes down to the basics, and of course a dance that is colorful and festive. This dance is also called as ‘Magbabao’ which can mean ‘the one using the ‘bao’ and the ‘bao’ is the coconut shell. Throughout the dance, the viewers of the dance can expect that most of the dance moves that will be performed by the dancers will focus on the use of these ‘baos’ or the coconut shells and some of the noises or the music that will be used by the dance will be generated by these coconut shells.

This dance actually tells a story- and it depicts the fight between the Moros and the Christians over the ‘latik’. The ‘latik’ is the residue that is left after the coconut milk has been cooked and boiled. This dance is composed of a four-part performance and the first two performance of the dance is called as the ‘Palipasan’ and the ‘Baligtaran’.

In these first two performances, the dance will show the opposing squads in an intense battle. The last two parts of the dance are the ‘Paseo’ and the ‘Sayaw Escaramusa’. These two dances basically show the reconciliation between the two groups and the dance steps of the dancers will show and suggest that the opposing groups are now in good terms. The two groups in this dance is the group of the Moros and the other group is the group of the Christians. All performers that partake in this traditional dance are male and they all attach and use the coconut shells. These shells are attached on many points of the body of the dancers- in the chests, the backs, the thighs and the hips. The performers will hold their triangular shaped coconut shells in their hands and they utilize these shells to hit the coconut shells that are fixed on their bodies and they use these to create the music that will accompany them when they are performing. The Moros in this dance will wear the red trousers and the Christian group will wear the blue trousers. This dance will involve some simple movements and simple repetitions.

The following will be a listing of the steps that are generally performed in the dance.

. First step will have performers make 6 to 8 counts of jogging while they stay in their place

. Then four steps forward while pounding the chests.

. Four basic clap cycles while the dancers are in place

. Another four basic clap cycles in order for the dancers to get to two rows

. Another 8 quick clap cycles to the ripple effect

. Another 8 quick clap cycles that will allow the dancer to circle around the partner, and next up is the Circle Up.

. The dancers will make 8 counts+1 -4 count for the first clap

. Dancers will clap after the one 8 count and this should be done 8 times, then the finishing clap

. Dancers will make 8 high-low clap cycles in order to move into position.

. Another 8 cycles of 6 hit clapping

. The dancer will then make 16 counts for the tricks with another round of clapping in the background

. Dancer will make 4 basic to get to the two sides

. Dancer will make 8 quick clap cycles for the battle

. Dancer will make 4 quick clap cycles in order to get to the end

. And right after the last clap, the dancers then make their pose.

According to historians, this Philippine dance originated in Laguna and usually performed during the town fiesta of Biñan. The dance is frequently executed in a religious procession as the procession heads down the street. This dance called ‘Maglalatik‘ is performed as an offering to their patron saint- San Isidro de Labrador.
