Online Travel Agents

Friday, April 24th, 2009

More and more people are booking their vacations and doing the research online and travel agents are seeing less people walking through their doors. The internet has found a whole new marketplace for people who want more control to design and arrange their vacations online and save money as well.I have used travel agents since my senior year trip and no matter how many websites offer unbeatable deals; I will remain loyal to them although have taken a liking to doing my own research.

It is actually much easier to go to your travel agent armed with all the information including costs as it can make it much easier to find what you are looking for. I think that these people are undervalued as they need to have a good knowledge of each country and can be very helpful when you have questions relating to your trip. They are particularly useful when you intend to travel outside of the United States and can help with any laws that might be relevant to where you’re going.

Your agent can also be useful in giving advice on what to see and if there is a charge to enter the country you’re visiting. The internet cannot do everything for you though as it’s not designed to look after your every need and make sure you have as few problems when you travel as possible. Don’t get me wrong, the internet is great but it is not caring and it is always reassuring dealing with a real person. It is an unfortunate fact that you cannot complain to the internet but you can to your travel agent; it may take a very long time before the internet can supply that sort of service. A few years ago when my husband to be and I decided to elope and get married, it was a real travel agent that helped make it all possible.

She could not have done more for us and she seemed to take the arrangements very personally, something I have never forgotten. Her help included things I hadn’t even asked her and she managed to provide us with an accurate costing which was a very important issue. It was this help that enabled us to book the wedding and our vacation almost immediately which was not something we had planned on but there wasn’t anything else left to do. I’m also a fan of travel agents over using the internet because if you end up booking the vacation from hell, you have no one to blame but yourself whereas if you used a travel agency, at least you’ll have someone to complain too.

Spending Time In Southport And Important Things To Know

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

During these times of hardship large numbers of folk are having to seriously looking at their way of life and attempting to save pennies. One way in which many are saving is to have an English vacation the reason being that the £ has lost ground against other currencies leading to the situation that foriegn vacations for the British are expensive than in years past and much less expensive for those visitors coming from Europe and America. In the following article I briefly introduce the seaside town of Southport, Merseyside, England.

Southport is a exquisite seaside town found on the North West coast of England. Visitor attractions include, Lord Street, Wayfarers’ Arcade, Churchtown village, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Churchtown village and more. Lord Street is Southport’s main street. All the way along one side of Lord Street the paving stones are covered by ornate Victorian iron work together with a row of lush green trees closer to the road. On the other side of the street you will discover  a Victorian bandstand, beautiful flower beds, gardens and fountains. At the very of Lord Street is most probably the most luxuriant war memorials in the UK with a centrally placed obelisk and 2 other memorials on either side which feature huge columns. It is along Lord Street that you will find some of the finest architecture in Southport and it is where you will discover the Victorian Wayfarers’ Arcade.

At the very end Lord Street you will discover the wonderful Hesketh Park. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family the park is heavily wooded, just like Lord Street. There are beautiful hidden areas to be discovered, a play park, glass house, bandstand and more to be found within Hesketh Park however the most prominent feature is the gorgeous lake.

You will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens in Chruchtown which has a large area of water set out like a river with boating, a bridge, ducks, swans and other wildlife and if animals and birds are your thing the gardens also has a tiny zoo, just across the way from the cafe and museum. The village of Churchtown is a picturesque collection of old fishermen’s cottages, cottages and houses the majority of which are white and some of them have a roof of thatch. It is vitally important that you explore on foot and that you are not afraid to look down alleys because there are a small number of hidden places of interest well worth the work to find.

Finding bed & breakfast in Southport is easy with a wide choice of guest houses and hotels in Southport taking reservations online. There are hotels for all budgets and tastes from from luxurious to cheap and cheerful in the centre of Southport or just outside.

Hot Winter Holidays in Lanzarote

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Whilst the rest of Europe is still experiencing cooler spring weather the Canary Islands are preparing themselves for the busiest holiday season of the year. As these seven specks of Spain that lie just off the coast of Africa are Europe´s only genuine Winter sun destination.

Lanzarote is the eastern most link in the Canary Island chain and has long been a favourite holiday destination with British and Irish tourists. And despite failing airlines, the falling pound and the current bleak economic outlook the Island of Fire is still a hot ticket. As holidaymaker numbers to the island have just kept on rising.

UK tourist continue to flock to the island and as a result demand for Lanzarote villas and apartments has remained relatively stable. Whilst property prices have also started to fall on the island it is less noticeable than in other european destinations.

The fact that Lanzarote remains relatively unspoiled is attributable to the works and efforts of an island born artist called Cesar Manrique. Who was studying in New York when packaged holidays first started to take off in Spain and hurried home to protect his beloved Lanzarote from over development.

understandable of the damage that this could cause to his birthplace Manrique returned home to ensure that his beloved Lanzarote was not buried beneath a sea of five star concrete.

As a result of his efforts Lanzarote has largely been spared the type of over development now commonly found in other Spanish sun spots and other Canary Islands resorts. High rise buildings are banned, advertising hoardings are outlawed and all of the islands three main tourist resorts are well contained.

Manrique also sought to create a set of unique tourist attractions that would provide an alternative to the golf courses and water parks so prevalent elsewhere in Spain.

In tandem with close collaborators such as Jesus Soto he lit an alternative path for island development with the creation of sites such as the Jameos del Agua, which embodied his desire to fuse art with nature.

Medan Sumatera Utara

Medan City

Medan City is the third largest in Indonesia. Situated in North-Sumatra in Indonesia with a population of 2.5 millions residents. It is said that during day time, the population of Medan City will grow to about 4 millions with people coming from suburbs.

The unique thing about Medan is that, it resides the largest volcanic lake in world known as Lake Toba which is twice the size of it neighboring country of Singapore.

History of Medan Indonesia

Medan started as a village called Kampung Medan (Medan Village). Kampung Medan was founded by Guru Patimpus around the 1590s. Since Kampung Medan sits on Tanah Deli (Land of Deli), Kampung Medan is also known as Medan-Deli. The original location of Medan Kampung is an area where the Deli River meets Babura River.

Based on the diary of the Portuguese merchant in early 16th century, it stated that the name of Medan was actually derived from Medina which is actually a holy city in the western of Saudi Arabia. However, other source indicated that the name of Medan came from Indian language “Meiden”. One of the Karo-Indonesia dictionary written by Darwin Prinst SH published in 2002 wrote that Medan could also be defined as “recover” or “be better”.

The first inhabitants of Medan came from the Batak Karo community. It was not until the Sultan of Aceh, Sultan Iskandar Muda, sent his warlord, Gocah Pahlawan Laksamana Khoja Bintan, to be the Sultanate of Aceh’s representative in Tanah Deli, that the Sultanate of Deli started to grow. This growth stimulated growth in both the population and culture of Kota Medan. In the second year reign of Sultan Deli (between 1669-1698), there was a cavalry battle in Medan.

Kota Medan did not experience significant development until the 1860s, when the Dutch colonialists began clearing the land for tobacco plantations. Medan quickly became a center of government and business activity, dominating development of Indonesia’s western region.

The Dutch governed Tanah Deli from 1658, after Sultan Ismail, ruler of the Kingdom of Siak Sri Indrapura, yielded some of his once-ruled land, Deli, Langkat, and Serdang. In 1915 Medan officially became the capital of North Sumatra Province, and officially a city in 1918.

With the largest volcanic lake in the world, The Legend of Lake Toba , Medan is a city worth visiting for your world vacations in Asia Indonesia

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Playa Del Carmen can be found on the Yucatan peninsula. You’ve never seen another place like Playa Del Carmen. Out of thirty-one states Playa Del Carmen is almost the smallest. Playa Del Carmen, the only other city in the state, is not too big and not too small. Its neither to hot nor too cold.  It’s not too busy and yet has most everything. While many places sell their souls for visitors, Playa stays true to it’s origins. For example, Playa Del Carmen has approximately 5% of the hotel rooms of Puerto Vallarta to the north.

Two-thirds of those visiting are Canadian. Like a New Yorker to a pizza joint, Playa Del Carmen is a magnet to Canadians of every province. The Americans here welcome them with open arms, and rolled eyes. Clearly seen is the fact that Playa Del Carmen is very different from other tourist hotspots. Returning to places is always nice as they frequently recall the last time you came, and give you a warm greeting. You leave feeling wanted and welcomed. This hidden gem won’t stay that way forever, enjoy it while you can. A feeling which is a shared desire of the locals, who, it is reported, have for many years been reluctant to accept federal funds targeted at developing tourism in the area. Playa Del Carmen remains true to it’s roots.
