Finding The Best Places To Stay in Lanzarote

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The small Canary Island of Lanzarote has been welcoming tourists for over forty years.  And as a result offers a whole raft of high quality holiday accommodation options.  Encompassing everything from small studio apartments through to top end luxury villas and luxurious five star hotels.  In locations across the island.

Lanzarote holiday villas as with the rest of the Canary Islands can be found to suit all budgetary requirements which makes the Canaries a very popular destination.

The best and biggest selection of apartments in Lanzarote can be found in the island’s oldest resort of Puerto del Carmen.  Which was the spot where tourism first took off on Lanzarote back in the late 1960´s.  Springing up around the Old Town harbour area and expanding rapidly.  To the point where today the resort now stretches some 8km from the big beach at Los Pocillos through to the upmarket residential enclave of Los Mojones.

The bulk of the best apartment accommodation can today be found in the New Town area – which essentially runs parallel with the main beachfront strip – the Avenida de las Playas.  Whilst the Old Town has become more of a residential zone.

Despite it´s popularity Puerto del Carmen is serviced by only two main Lanzarote hotels.  The San Antonio and the Los Fariones.  With the bulk of this type of accommodation located in the southern resort of Playa Blanca.  Which boasts a strip of new four and five star establishments along the seafront – all offering very reasonable room rates.

Playa Blanca makes for an ideal holiday destination – especially during the winter months.  As the resort enjoys the best weather and climate on Lanzarote.  Thanks to its location at the southern tip of the island just across the Bocaina Straits from the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca is also a relatively young resort – having only evolved over the last ten years.  Which means that most amenities are still virtually brand new.

Playa Blanca also boasts the best selection of Lanzarote villas available for holiday rental.  With some of the most attractive properties located in and around the Rubicon Marina development.  Which is emerging as a serious rival to the islands other luxury marina at Puerto Calero back up the south east coastline towards Puerto del Carmen.

As well as good quality accommodation Lanzarote also boasts a host of
interesting tourist attractions.  Such as the Timanafaya Volcano Park, the green lagoon at El Golfo, The Valley of 1000 Palms and the Cactus Garden.  Fortunately the island is small, which makes sightseeing very manageable.  And car hire in Lanzarote is also relatively cheap – making touring the island affordable too.

City Breaks In Inverness, Scotland and Some Important Things To Know

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Inverness, frequently referred to as the capital city of the Highlands, was granted city status in the year 2001 and is currently the only city to be found in the Highlands of Scotland. Uniquely (in the United Kingdom) Inverness has no legal boundaries which can cause problems with population assessments. The estimations are made less accurate because of the fact that the population of Inverness is sharply increasing, the city has the highest growth rate of any UK city. One thing we can say for certain is that the population of the city is fairly happy, in a 2008 survey by the Telegraph, about the quality of life in 189 cities in the United Kingdom, Inverness came 5th. So we can safely say that Inverness is a pretty alright place in which to stay for some time and this is most probably one of the factors which make Inverness incredibly popular with tourists. Importantly there is a great deal of bed & breakfasts in Inverness with most of it being bookable online.

Inverness is also referred to as the gateway to the Highlands of Scotland for the clear fact that it is the hub of the Highland public transport system and a considerable amount of tourist attractions are easy to get to. Probably the best way to get to them is via a tour or day trip. A few tour companies visiting places such as, Loch Ness, Urquart Castle or Culloden or for the adventurous tourist you can to visit Orkney or John O’Groats in a day. It is also possible to find a small number of city tours, such as those run by Tony Harmsworth or City Sightseeing.

Some visitors choose to stay in 2 locations in the Highlands say Fort William and, later, Inverness. The town of Fort William is immensely popular with sports folk especially ramblers, hill walkers and mountaineers who take their chances climbing up Ben Nevis which towers above the town’s center. In a similar way to Inverness bed & breakfast in Fort William and rather like other bed and breakfast accommodation in Scotland it is commonly not too expensive, very good value for money and extremely clean, tidy and comfortable with unbeatable hospitality.

One important fact you should remember is that the airport for Inverness is, approximately, 7 miles to the east at Dalcross. It is easy to hail a cab or catch a bus to the small and busy airport which is quite reasonable. If you will be needing maps of the area then you will find them free at the tourist office, on Castle Wynd in the town center. While you are staying in the city you should remember to visit the ’stone of tubs’ and Mercat Cross, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Inverness Castle especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an interactive experience which is immensely enjoyable.

Ways To Travel Safely

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Like a typical Americans, I like to go on frequent vacations and I expect that you too like traveling. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Any vacation and we start thinking about the several things we are going to go away from like any stressful job, etc. To have the assurance that you will be safe in your trip, let me give you some few points for your safety.

Like anyone else, you too would be traveling with baggage, but make sure that you never put your postal address on any baggage. Along with this case, there’s probably going to be a baggage tag and on this tag, you’re only going to want to put your name and phone number. This ensures that the individual who is thinking of returning your case, would call first.

The reason why putting your postal address is not recommended is that the thief, once, he finds something worthy inside your baggage, would be under the impression that there is more at home. It’s a rather safe bet to just settle on leaving your first and last name.

Keep your case clean: When I say keep your case clean, I’m referring to important documents. Your case should only include the things that even when get lost can still be easily replaceable without any hassle such as your clothes. Your valuables such as charge cards, passports, and other significant documents should never be kept in your case. If somebody had stolen these items, just as I mentioned on my last tip – that thief is more likely to get a hold of all or most of the essential information about you.

Stop showing off: Some people love to exhibit their wealth in public, but in real life, probably are neck-deep in debts. For instance, if you sport costly items of jewelry, a goon may decide to pursue you to a point where you find yourself lost. Since no body really cares about your visual aspect when you are traveling, there is hardly any point in wearing attention-grabbing travel gear. Just think to yourself, “How many people do you really check out for their style”?

Clean out the notecase: Before you go on your next trip, try and clean out your billfold. professionals say that’s it’s important that you don’t load up on too many charge cards and documents so try to keep these things at home locked up in a home safe. [travel] experts recommend that it is unsafe to carry multiple credit cards or other documents, and it is best that you leave them at home in a safe and secure place. It is essential to note down the phone number of the credit card company, so that in the event of the card getting lost or stolen, you can inform the company immediately. It is important to note down the phone number of the credit card company, so that in the event of the card getting lost or stolen, you can inform the company straightaway.

There are so many points I can list when it comes to traveling and safety so it’s up to you to use your best judgment. You should remember that the most helpful points are to avoid showing off your precious stuffs and not be too flashy with your appearance. If you can follow the tip that is to carry only the things that you can afford to lose, then no doubt that you will be one of the safest travelers ever known. If you can follow this concept, you’ll be the safest traveler around!

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Cruise liner owners are aware of this and have different packages to cater for diverse crowds so the vacation can meet their needs of a dream holiday with a variety of entertainment packages available.

In any situation where you are spending a great deal of money, it is worth checking out a few details that should put you on the right track and you travel agency will be a good place to start. Almost every Caribbean island will receive cruise liner guests but they can’t call on every one each trip as it would take to long so you need to look for a package that will call at the islands you want.

Disco loving people that don’t like to sleep will enjoy those cruise vacations that arrange activity filled days and non-stop party evenings. Even though your tour operator should be able to provide information on the types of Caribbean cruise packages that are available, there will probably be more advice to be found on the web sites.

The main difference with this type of vacation is the number of changes of clothing you take with you as there is a greater opportunity to dress for evening functions. For formal evenings and events a gown is necessary for women and tuxedo for men so that you can be seen in your finest and something you need to be prepared for especially if you are invited to the Captains table.

Even if you intend to bring along your children on a family cruise vacation, there are plenty of programs to occupy them and they will not have a dull moment. In actual fact there are specially trained staff to take care of children that can provide entertainment activities throughout the entire day and during the voyage.

Couples can take a romantic Caribbean cruise vacation and you will have the holiday you look forward to on a vacation vessel that is for adults only. Other cruise liner packages are available and have been created for special occasions like weddings, honeymoons and anniversaries.

A Caribbean cruise will be your vacation of a lifetime as it has the scenery, locations, beaches and the first class service you can expect on board a cruise liner whether you are alone or with others.

Vacation Value Hunter: Making Your Vacation Dollars Go Further

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

The secret to squeezing the most value out of your vacation is to plan your trip thoroughly and to plan your trip well in advance. No matter what your vacation plans look like, whether your planning a family trip, a trek around the world, or a relaxing couple of days on the beach with you and your sweetheart, the thoughts of cost and budgeting are always looming in the back of your mind.

Everyone loves to travel and vacation.  No matter how recessionary the economy may become that one truth will always remain steady.  This makes sense when you consider that travel is not just a fun pastime, but an essential part of a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle.  It is an opportunity to relax, rejuvenate and recoup from the barrage of daily stress that beats us down throughout the rest of the year.

But even though travel is a necessary element to life, which we should both plan for and budget for.  It is becoming increasingly important to find ways to save on our vacation plans wherever and whenever possible.   We must look for ways to stretch our vacation dollars further today than we ever have in the past.  And that is what this article aims to help you accomplish.

Many people assume that when the economy gets tight and they are forced to start pinching pennies, that they will have to do away with the family vacation plans altogether. That is not necessarily the case, and would actually be a bad idea.  As I already mentioned, travel is not just a luxury, it is a necessity for living a healthy, well balanced life, physically, emotionally and mentally.

Small Things Add Up Fast

It is important to keep in mind, when sketching out your travel plans, that even the small things can add up to big savings on your overall travel budget.

Things like, all those extra hotel amenities, cab-fares, hospitality tips, meals at restaurants, car rentals, gas for your own vehicle if on a road trip, tickets for special attractions or events, beach-and-pool-side drinks (if not at an all-inclusive resort or cruise) and more, adds up fast on and can get out of control before you know it!

There are many un-seized opportunities to save some cash in the process.  In the following paragraphs I am going to lay out for you several ways to add some big savings to your vacations bottom line.

Plan Your Vacation Like You Plan Other Important Areas Of Your Life

For starters, you need to create a definitive plan for your vacations… I don’t mean just this year’s vacation either, you should be planning your vacations out for several years to come. What places do you most want to visit in the next five to ten years? What are some of your dream adventures and secret ambitions that you would like to accomplish before you get too old?

In reality, travel and vacation plans should be treated like any other planned financial decision in life. Whether we’re talking about mortgage payments, car payments, tuition, health care, insurance or any other life-expense.  Travel and vacation is justified and ‘sold’, as just another important item on the list to think about and budget for, and that is how you should treat it as well.

Sufficient Knowledge

You should arm yourself with a well-rounded collection of knowledge regarding your target destination.  Knowledge is power, and the more you have about the local economy, customs, practices and daily routine of the destination you are visiting, the more money you are likely to save, and the smoother your vacation will be.

You should be able to gather all of the information that you need to sufficiently research your vacation destination simply by doing a Google search online, or by writing to or calling the local tourism board or chamber office at your destination of choice.

The more you know about your vacation destination, the less likely you are to be taken advantage of, exploited or extorted by excessive prices and/or misrepresentation.

Save Some Green by Traveling Green

Biking and walking tours can be a unique and fun adventure, a great way to see some of the more off-the-beaten-path spots that the masses tend to miss, and can also be a great way to save you some cash at the same time.  Taking a walk around your vacation destination, or getting around on a rental bicycle can be a great option not only for relaxing and saving money but also a great opportunity to see and notice things that would be too easily missed in the hurried pace of an automobile.  If your destination does not allow for very easy navigation on foot or bicycle, you should consider using some form of public transportation within the area. This can be a great way to save some money and allows you the opportunity to mingle with the locals and make some new aquaintences.

Don’t Overdo It in The Luggage Department

One of the most commonly made mistakes made by travelers is packing too much of everything.  Not only is this inconvenient when it comes to lugging all that extra baggage around, but you could also incur some significant extra charges from airlines and other travel and hospitality services. You have to deal with having to ship personal belongings home, leaving some items at the airport, packing and unpacking bags, removing items and more! All these actions are responsive and costly options. Pack and travel light. Think minimalism when packing.  Pick items that will suit and serve you well, multi-purpose, functional, mix and match well, are durable and easy-care. Essentials rather than outfit and accessory, fashion and color-coded planning dictating the bulging suitcase.

A Great Call When It Comes To Saving Money

Another great way to avoid extra expenses, which many people fail to consider is the act of simply taking a pre-paid phone card along with you on your vacation.  They are a good alternative to making long distance phone calls from your hotel-room, cabin or any-place else on location where you find yourself vacationing. Today people also choose to use cell phones and text-messages to stay in touch and remain connected. Both are good options to save money while traveling.  But keep in mind that some places you are visiting might have limited or no cell coverage, and/or you might be in an area that is considered to be roaming for your carrier, and if that is the case you could end up being charged a bundle on your next cell phone bill. This is another reason why carrying a few calling cards along with you is a good idea.

Membership Has It’s Privileges

One of the best ways to save possibly thousands of dollars on all of your vacations is to utilize the bonuses and incentives of a Vacation Membership Club.  Vacation membership clubs operate in much the same fashion as wholesale clubs like Costco and Sams Club.  You pay a small fee to be a part of the club, but the savings, value and benefits that your membership makes available to you far outweigh the small cost to join the program. There are several options on the market when it comes to shopping for a good vacation club membership, but I have researched them all and have found that the best option with the highest quality vacation benefits, and the lowest cost of membership is a company called Resorts 360.  The Resorts 360 Vacation Club provides its members with discounts of up to 80% at over 4000 Resort destinations around the world, as well as discounts on hotels, cruises and more.  Resorts 360 also offers one of the most low-cost and easily affordable to everyone membership in the industry.  At less than $200 to get started, and potential savings of $1,200 or more on your very first vacation, joining this type of vacation club is a no-brainer.

5 Incredible Honeymoon Resorts

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

I have compiled the following listing of the most wonderful honeymoon resorts anywhere to help you decide on the perfect resort for your trip.

So let’s get right to my choices for the top 5 honeymoon destinations in the world:

5. Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico

This resort is on my list due to its excellent service — maybe the best anywhere. The location is incredible, the grounds are impeccably kept, the food is world-class, the beach is wonderful, and the views… well you simply have to see them to appreciate them. But it is the manner in which the staff caters to your every need that really distinguishes this place from the rest of the pack. The wonderful staff will cater to your every need and ensure that you experience the most amazing, memorable, and romantic honeymoon possible.

4. Las Ventanas al Paraiso Resort in Baja California, Mexico

This honeymoon resort is simply elegant. Situated in one of the most beautiful locations in all of Cabo, Las Ventanas has world-class accommodations, facilities, dining, and service. It’s the kind of place where you are likely to rub elbows with celebrities, and the level of service is bound to make you feel like a movie star yourself.  For anyone considering a Mexico honeymoon, this is the perfect spot.

3. Little Dix Bay, St. John, B.V.I.

The best place to stay in the wonderful British Virgin Islands, Little Dix has everything you could possibly want in a romantic resort – incredible service, stunning beaches, amazing facilities, and that laid-back ambiance that makes for the very best honeymoons.

2. Four Seasons Hualalai, Big Island of Hawaii

Possibly the perfect resort for honeymooners that love golf (and even those who don’t), this Four Seasons hotel has an incredible location, great facilities, world class golf courses, and the level of impeccable service you’d expect from a Four Seasons property. The Four Seasons resort on Hawaii’s Big Island could just be the premiere resort in all of Hawaii.

1. Caneel Bay, St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

Situated in what might just be the most aesthetically pleasing spot in all of the Caribbean, Caneel Bay is a little slice of paradise. The turquoise waters here are the most stunningly beautiful anywhere in the world, and the hotel itself is amazing too. Surrounded by a lush U.S. national Park, Caneel Bay has an out-of-the-way feel, yet it is a ferry ride away from the excitement of St. Thomas. Caneel Bay really has the best of both worlds. You’ll find that the resort is amazing and romantic, simply an ideal spot to have your honeymoon or your romantic vacation.

TUI Report New Healthy Sales Figures

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

The weak economy has hit the holiday industry hard. XL was one of the first high-profile tour operators to hit the floor and since then there have been many other either struggling or calling it a day completely. The first good news in a while however has been announced by TUI, Britain’s largest tour operator, who say that their last months sales show strong improvements.Peter Long, chief executive of TUI put this down a regaining of people’s trust in the economy slightly and feeling better about spending their disposable income after the hyped mass hysteria about the credit crunch settled down. “Customers who delayed purchasing holidays in the early booking season have started to return to the market” the company said.

Another factor that is likely have an influence is low interest rates. Mortgage repayments have been cut down, utility bills are low and food cost are better than they have been in a long time. What this cumulative affect means is that people have a little more money to spend on looking after themselves. The hotter countries are proving to be the most popular locations, especially those with the Caribbean and Mediterranean regions where people can de-stress and take some time out for themselves. All inclusive holidays are in high demand at the minute also.

Even though purchases are technically 7% less than this time last year, as a whole this figure is better than it has been all year.  They have sold 93% of their winter holidays because despite the worst performing market currently being the Nordic region, holidays to Canada have been doing very well

TUI has said that this pick up represents a general improving trend in holiday sales. Once we get through this season we predict we will see levels regain strength and match those of pre-recession times.

Why I Gave My Prize to Charities

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

My story began a few years back, in all honesty I was looking to go overseas as I have never really left home land. I am the type of person that just always enters competitions. I like the enjoyment when they get back to me but most times this does not end up going much further.

Well I finally got a bit of luck after years of playing and got put into the final draw to win tickets on jamaica holidays. As the weeks went by the draw date got closer and closer I started to feel a bit nervous as the three finalists had to give a speech on why they deserved to win. I was so caught up in trying to think of something good to say, why do I deserve to win when there are so many better people around.

The day finally came around and there were a selection of three judges in a medium sized room the 2 before me gave excellent speeches, but in some ways you could tell that they were not being honest at all. So it was my turn, they asked me the question “So why do you deserve to win the holiday”, I instantly replied “I don’t”, they all glanced at me very awkwardly. I then proceeded with my planned speech and said that there were people that deserved this much more than I did. So if I did win it I would be giving it to charity.

The judging selection then went away and stood all of us up, to my suprise they announced me as the winner, they said I had a lot of admiration and instead of giving me two tickets they were going to give four. Two for charity and two for me, It just goes to show that being the nice guy pays off, the destination and st Lucia resorts were absolutely amazing.

Favourite Attractions around Glasgow, The Glasgow Science Centre

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

When visiting Glasgow one of the essential visitor attractions must be be the Glasgow Science Mall
The Science Mall is 1 of the country’s leading visitor attractions, which showcases various science and technology concepts in different, fun and inspirational ways.

The Glasgow Science Mall is situated on the south bank of the River Clyde and opened it’s doors to the public in June of 2001, The Glasgow Science Mall is part of the on-going redevelopment of the Pacific Quay region in an area, which was formerly a cargo port recognized as Prince’s Dock.

The Science Mall includes the Glasgow Imax Cinema, The Glasgow Science Centre itself and the impressive Glasgow Tower. Inside the Science Centre is the Planetarium, which is 1 of the better equipt planetariums in Britain. This enables the public the chance to search the planets and the galaxy within a 15 metre dome. This allows you the opportunity to discover the stars minus the normal light pollution you would witness attempting to view the stars from a built up area. The Glasgow Science Centre is also one of the city’s most intriguing modern structures, which was fashioned to be environmentally friendly.

It is invariably a good idea to inspect the Glasgow Science Centre internet site prior to your arrival to see what is on. Each day there are live experiments and workshops you could be part of and by finding out about these in advance you can sign up for them when you arrive. The workshops usually are full and if you have not registered in advance on the day you may be unable to join in when you wish. By registering when you arrive it also allows you to discover all the other attractions and still not miss any of the shows or workshops.

While visiting the Science Mall you can also see a picture at the Imax Cinema in 3D. Also inside the Glasgow Science Mall complex is the 105m high Tower, the largest tower in the world to revolve 360 degrees from the bottom up, providing thrilling perspectives of Glasgow.

So if you are travelling to Glasgow, the Science Mall with the Glasgow Tower, Imax Cinema and the Science Centre provides a special day out. You can usually get special reduced priced tickets offering admittance to each of the attractions at a reduced price. This is one attraction you can enjoy regardless of the weather conditions outside.

Travelling to Glasgow is simple and there are numerous Glasgow flights establishing it as an excellent location for a hotel break

Canada Suffers From Worst Ski Conditions In Years

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Canada’s previous good snow was not evident this year after and very poor conditions left some people calling it the worst season in 10 years. People taking holidays in Canada this year got something of let down.

Canada is known all around the world for being the place find great snow and perfectly formed pistes. The ski resort of Whistler is well known to most and scores of people set out towards the Canadian Rockies each season for their dose of snow heaven. This past season did not provide the usual delights that people expect however.

Just before Christmas a period of -30 degree high pressure meant the slopes stayed pretty sparse and the low pressure that followed fails to deliver the needed dump. There were little bits of snowfall here and there of about 3-5cm but it didn’t hang around and it is difficult to ride on that amount anyway. One man interviewed as he left a resort states “it’s been borderline terrible”. He had found his way out to the Castle Resort the week before but found bare slopes and zero snow when he arrived.“I maybe got 4 days of riding out of 14, that’s not good”.  Another visitor said that she decided to ditch the skiing in favour of doing some sightseeing on one of the local company’s polar bear holidays.

The unreliable temperatures and pressures that caused the lack of snow have been blamed by many of the effects of global warming.  A counter argument to this is the great conditions that Europe and most of America have had at their ski resorts, some of the best for years in fact. Most put it down to poor fortunes and hope for better luck next winter
