Bloemfontein tourism
The sixth largest city in the province of the Free State, South Africa is its capital Bloemfontein. Besides serving as the judicial capital of the country, it links the East, West, South, and North main road, rail, and air routes due to its convenient location at their convergence. Bloemfontein’s climate and well-fertilized gardens are also well suited for roses that the city has earned the name City of Roses. National Museum
Archaeologists specializing in the area of prehistoric predecessors of the modern man will find the display of the Florisbad skull of special interest. It is housed in Bloemfontein at the National Museum in Charles Street. They also have one of the largest collections of archeological discoveries and fossils in South Africa. The museum also features a realistic depiction from the year 1900 of a street in Bloemfontein.
Old Presidancy
The old fort on top of the hill in Church Street, over looking the heart of Bloemfontein was built in 1848 to serve as a stronghold against native invasions. The Old Fort is presently the Queen’s Fort Military Museum, which depicts the armed conflicts that took place in the Orange Free State Republic since 1820. A monument to honor the civilians of the Orange Free State Republic, who fell in the Basotho war, is built near the entrance. Outside the museum various armed vehicles, cannons and an Impala Fighter jet is on display.
The Free State Agricultural Museum
Glen Agricultural College, northwest of Bloemfontein, boasts a wonderful museum depicting daily farm life and tools from various eras. The museum’s goal is to preserve this way of life to show future generations.
The Rugby and Motorcar museums
Choet Visser’s The Rugby Museum located in Bloemfontein can deservingly boast to house the maximum exclusive collections than any museum in the world. Waldie Greyvenstein has so painstakingly collected and displayed vintage and classic cars, motor cycles and motor-mobilia which unfold the century old history of motorcars.
The Orchid House
Tell your nose you’re in for a treat! Then go pay a visit to Bloemfontein’s Orchid House. Nestled at the foot of Naval Hill in Hamilton Park, the most beautiful orchids await. A circular wooden walk leads the way to lush greenery, colorful and rare orchids and even a fragrance garden for the blind. It is a tropical oasis!

On the beautiful Eastern banks of Loch Logan lies a project that all must see. It is the new, innovative and appropriately named Loch Logan Waterfront.
